Academics

The mission of the Ann Arbor Public Schools, a world-class system of innovative teaching and learning, is to ensure each student realizes his or her aspirations while advancing the common good through a community dynamic distinguished by: personalized learning that is curiosity driven, student directed and teacher inspired: a challenging and provocative curriculum: individual and group creative expression: the nurturing of the human spirit: culturally congruent instruction and forging alliances with families and community.

AAPS students continue to demonstrate outstanding academic achievement. Over 96% of third graders, 94% fourth graders and 93% seventh graders met or exceeded state standards in math. 91% third graders, 92% fourth graders and 91% seventh graders met or exceeded state standards in reading. AAPS High School students continue to exceed state and national standards on ACT and SAT testing as well as 46 National Merit Finalists in 2009.

AAPS continues to set achievement goals higher and stretch efforts further to ensure that each student has an outstanding educational experience and is achieving at a high level.
