Second Application Windows Opened for Space-Available In-District Transfers and Non-Resident Child of Employee Enrollment

AAPS has opened a second application window for Space-Available In-District Transfers and Non-Resident Child of Employee enrollments. Applications will be accepted May 17 through 5pm on June 4. A very limited number of spaces are available at 13 elementary schools; the grades with spaces available vary from building to building. Thank you Ann Arbor Community! AAPS Technology Bond Approved on May 8th!

Thank you to the Ann Arbor Community for supporting the AAPS Technology Bond. Over 70% of voters approved the passage of the $45,855,000, 10 year bond which will provide technology in three phases to district students, staff and schools.

Thank you to the volunteer Citizen's Millage Committee, thank you to the PTO's, thank you to the staff, thank you to the parents and thanks to all the voters! This important bond will help keep the Ann Arbor Public Schools Exceptional!

Vote for Ann Arbor Preschool & Family Center & Skyline High School in Bank of Ann Arbor's Project Help Contest

We have TWO projects nominated in the voting contest for Bank of Ann Arbor's Project Help. We need your Facebook votes! You can vote for each project and since they are in different award categories, they don't compete against eachother!

1) Our speech therapists at Ann Arbor Preschool & Family Center have had their project selected to compete in Bank of Ann Arbor's Project Help contest. The project that gets the most votes will win $10,000.
2) Skyline's Athletic Booster Club has a project competing in the $1,000 category to erect a flagpole near the athletic fields. Help them reach their goal by voting every day!

  • Click the Project Help banner at the top of the Project Help app project help banner and find Ann Arbor Preschool under the $10,000 projects, and Ann Arbor Skyline under the $1,000 projects.
  • Click on Ann Arbor Preschool and you will be directed to a brief explanation about the project, iPads for our speech therapists, with a great picture of Jennie Marenghi and a student.
  • Right underneath the project description, choose "vote."
  • When it says "thanks," you can click the X in the Vote window to close it. Then scroll down to the $1000 projects, and repeat for Skyline High School.
    Participants can vote once in each category every day. Share this with as many folks as you can! We need everyone to vote once a day between now and May 23rd. Please help!

Proposed 2012/13 Budget Plan Now Available; Community Budget Forums Announced

The Ann Arbor Public Schools has begun the process to set the 2012/2013 budget. A presentation was made to the board on Wednesday, April 25. The presentation is available to review here (1mb PDF). The Board of Education must pass the 2012/2013 budget on or before June 30, 2012.

There are two budget forums scheduled. Please come and hear the proposed budget details and offer your opinions, advice and solutions.

All budget forums begin at 6:30 p.m.

NAMM Foundation Survey Reveals Ann Arbor A 'Best Community for Music Education' in the United States

176 Communities Nationwide Achieve Prestigious Designation; 166 School Districts and 10 Schools Achieve Prestigious National DesignationCARLSBAD, Calif. (April 17, 2012) — The NAMM Foundation today announced the results of its 13th annual Best Communities for Music Education (BCME) survey, which acknowledges schools and districts across the U.S. for their commitment and support for music education as part of the core curriculum. In all, 176 communities out of 237 that submitted surveys were recognized, including 166 school districts and 10 schools. This year, Ann Arbor, MI, has been designated a “Best Community.”

Sunshine Review Awards Ann Arbor Public Schools Web Site with 2012 Sunny

The Sunshine Review, a non-profit organization dedicated to transparency in local and state governments, has given the Ann Arbor Public Schools web site an A- rating. Using their ten point checklist to evaluate the site, the Sunshine Review credited the Ann Arbor Public Schools for posting budget and financial reports, collective bargaining agreements and board of education meeting agendas and minutes, among other desired information. The Ann Arbor Public Schools is very pleased with this rating, and will strive to improve our transparency through our web site.

Stadium Bridge Replacement Causing Street Closures; Detours Required

On Monday, November 28, the two bridges over State Street between Main Street and South Industrial, will be closed for demolition and reconstruction for a year. For Ann Arbor Public School families and staff it will mean a year-long inconvenience, especially attempting to go west and east on Stadium which will now be closed. Read more...
