Recycling…

A part of the district's going green program recycling has been expanded at each school. The district has been doing paper and cardboard recycling for a number of years in conjunction with the City of Ann Arbor Solid Waste Department.  This year through our joint efforts we have recycled more than 473,550 pounds of paper since September 2009.  Each school has done their part to recycle and will be awarded certificates telling them how much each school recycled during the school year.

The district has also been recycling foam lunch trays for many years.  Light recycling was added to our efforts over the past two years.  This year we have expanded recycling to include plastic bottles and cans, CD/DVD’s, batteries and printer cartridges. New containers for recycling the plastic bottles and cans have been placed in all schools and administration offices.  CD/DVD’s, batteries and printer cartridges can be sent through inner school mail for recycling by noting “RECYCLE – attn.:  Ann Anglim” on the envelope or box.

Helpful Recycle Hints for Parents, Students and Staff…

Use washable containers instead of plastic baggies and reusable lunch bags instead of paper or plastic bags.  Did you know that it has been estimated that on average a school-age child that has a disposable lunch generates 67 pounds of waste per school year?  Check out the waste free lunch site at http://www.wastefreelunches.org/.

Bring a reusable bag with you to the grocery store instead of getting plastic bags.  Buy in bulk to reduce packaging.  Every little bit helps.
