This Week’s Good News!
  • This week is very special in that it is graduation week for Community, Huron and Pioneer High Schools. Congratulations to all of the graduates and their families. Thank you to all of our teachers, administrators and support staff who contributed to preparing our students for this event.
  • Roberto Clemente honored its seniors with a special luncheon last Thursday. The event was very moving as the staff communicated how proud they were of the students and what they have accomplished. Clemente seniors will participate in the commencement ceremony of their home school, Huron or Pioneer.
    The Hikone ambassadors from Ann Arbor have been selected for the fall 2008 visit to Japan. They are:
    Andrea Martin, Ann Arbor Open, 7th grade
    Colin Leach, Ann Arbor Open, 8th grade
    Cattleya Trager, Clague, 8th grade
    Katarina Subotic,  Clague, 7th grade
    Carmen Flesher, Forsythe, 7th grade
    Hannah Lehker, Forsythe, 7th grade
    Sheeba Pawar, Scarlett, 7th grade
    Blake Ebright, Scarlett, 8th grade
    Clare McFadden,  Slauson, 7th grade
    Madeleine Polovick, Slauson, 7th grade
    Sarah Court, Tappan, 7th grade
    Aaron Bau,, Tappan, 7th grade
    The following two project directors will be accompanying the students to Japan in November:

    Lyn DeGroot, Program Assistant for Rec & Ed and the Hikone Exchange Program
  • Congratulations to the Pioneer women’s track team, and coach Bryan Westfield, for winning the Division 1 State championship. This is the third year in a row that the team has won the state championship and Pioneer’s 16th state title under coach Westfield.
  • Slauson science teacher Jeff Bradley was awarded a $500.00 grant from the Chrysler Foundation for Slauson Middle School. The award was presented in recognition of his demonstrated exemplary skills in energizing and engaging students’ interests in the fields of math, science, engineering and technology.
