The AAPS READ 180 Model
The current model for READ 180 instruction in the AAPS includes programming at the elementary, middle and high school levels. All elementary buildings will have a READ 180 program in place that targets increasing the reading ability of students in grades 3-5.
At the middle school level, the program is in use with students in grades 6-8. We have a READ 180 program in place at Clague, Forsythe, Scarlett, Slauson and Tappan middle schools. In addition, READ 180 has been in place at both Slauson and Scarlett for the past 4 years, and has show tremendous jumps in reading ability for our kids. At the high school level, we are using the program with current 9th and 10th grade students at Clemente, Huron, Pioneer, Skyline and Stone.
Ideally, the READ 180 classroom is structured using a 90-minute teaching model that focuses on giving students one-on-one instruction in the areas the struggle with. To learn more about the 90-minute model, click here.
