Thank You Ann Arbor Voters!

May 3, 2017

Hello Ann Arbor Public Schools Staff, Parents, Students and Community,

Thank you for your strong vote of confidence for our Ann Arbor Public Schools in the 2017 Sinking Fund Vote.

Over 13,500 voters turned out to vote on the AAPS sinking fund millage renewal/replacement yesterday. An overwhelming majority, over 70%, voted to support the millage and provide steady funding to our schools for major repairs and renovations over the next 10 years.

Our current students, as well as future generations of students, will benefit from the outcome of this affirmative vote. We appreciate the strong support of our community in approving a much-needed infusion of resources dedicated explicitly for repair and restoration of our school buildings.

Every dollar of these additional resources will be invested in our schools to significantly improve the learning and working environment that our children, staff, and families experience every day in our schools as well as the function, efficiency, and appearance of our AAPS schools.

Functional and well-maintained schools are a clear indicator of the health and vibrancy of a community and we are grateful that with this vote, the Ann Arbor community has affirmed this priority.

We are excited to begin the process of implementing improvement projects and will be inviting students, teachers, parents, and community members to provide input and participate in the process of studying, planning, and developing recommendations for the improvement work set to begin over the coming months. As plans are discussed and developed, we look forward to continuing a public engagement process and will share regular public updates with the community on our progress.

Quality public schools are an outcome of strong, successful communities. I know that we are proud of our amazing students, our beautiful school buildings, and the important role they play in our vibrant Ann Arbor community.

Thank you for this strong vote of support for our Ann Arbor children, staff, and the Ann Arbor Public Schools community. We are most grateful.
