Degrees and Certifications:
Welcome!! My name is LaKeisha Drummer. I am extremely excited to begin this learning journey with you and your child. As your child’s fourth grade teacher, I would like to take the time to introduce myself. I was born and raised in Ann Arbor. I am a graduate of Ann Arbor Public Schools. I attended Michigan State University. GO GREEN! GO WHITE! I received my Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in Education in 2007. I went on to complete my student teaching internship in Detroit. I taught fourth grade at a Title 1 school in Georgia for one year, and then returned to Ann Arbor. I taught fourth grade at Burns Park Elementary for two years. This will be my sixth year teaching at Carpenter. I am extremely excited to be teaching at Carpenter Elementary!! I also have a Master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Eastern Michigan University. I have received extensive training and excellent instruction through my experiences at Michigan State University, Eastern Michigan University, and during my career in the Ann Arbor Schools. I am looking forward to spending this year teaching and learning with your child, as well as working with you to make that experience as meaningful as possible. I am also a proud mother to my beautiful and vibrant three-year-old daughter!! I enjoy spending time with my daughter, reading, cooking, and traveling.
I would like to also share some of my teaching philosophy with you. First and foremost, I strongly believe that all students will learn. I have high expectations for all students regardless of their background and or personal circumstance. It is my goal to ensure that I maintain a welcoming, safe, and inclusive classroom community in which all students feel successful. I hope to instill a life-long passion of learning in each student. I believe that to be an effective educator I must do my best to accommodate the different needs and interest that are represented in the classroom. I would like to clarify that fair does not mean that each child gets the same thing. Instead fair means that each child receives what he or she needs.
I am excited to work with this wonderful group of children! Please know that each day I will do my very best to ensure that your child has a meaningful, authentic, and engaging learning experience. If you have any questions, comments, and or concerns please do not hesitate to contact me. Thank you for all that you do to ensure your child’s success. I know that we will have a great year!
