Dear Pattengill Families,
My name is Michael Moody and I am a third-grade teacher at Pattengill Elementary. I am excited to welcome you and your child into my classroom this year! This will be my second year at Pattengill and my third year as an educator. Prior to Pattengill, I taught fourth grade at University Preparatory Academy in Detroit. I graduated from Michigan State University with a bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management and got my master’s degree from the University of Michigan in Elementary Education.
I have lived here in Ann Arbor with my wife Becky for 7 years along with our crazy dog Rowdy. I love the community here and feel blessed to be an educator in Ann Arbor Public Schools. I am an extremely active person and am always looking to get outside and into nature. I am an avid runner who has completed 6 marathons and am currently training for an ultra-marathon this Fall. I also enjoy reading graphic novels as well as anything history related. My favorite subject to teach is Social Studies, as it allows students to learn about the state of Michigan as well as learn about taking on public issues!
My teaching philosophy is to empower students to own their learning and to make learning relevant to student’s lives. I view students as coming into my classroom with valuable experiences that they should use to help advance and grow in their learning. I lean on their interests and strengths to make learning fun and engaging! Finally, I work to create a classroom environment that is warm and supportive, which is critical to student learning.
I look forward to the year ahead and getting to know you and your child. It is going to be a great year at Pattengill Elementary!
Mr. Michael Moody
