Dear Pattengill Families,
My name is Brendan Hatt. I’m so happy to be working with you and your child this year.
This is my eleventh year teaching at Pattengill, and my fifteenth year of teaching altogether. I started my teaching career working with 5th, 6th, and seventh graders at University Preparatory Academy, in Detroit. I have a bachelors degree in primary education from The University of Michigan, as well as a masters degree in reading from Eastern Michigan University. My roots go deep at Pattengill. I was a student here in the nineties while my father, Chuck Hatt, was a teacher here. My wife, Erica Hatt, is also Pattengill alumni. I had a wonderful experience at Pattengill as a child, and my mission is to ensure that my students have a similarly happy, and productive experience. Acquiring and sharing knowledge is one of the great joys of life. Loving to learn, and having confidence in the contributions that you can make in a safe and warm environment are the keys to loving school. My teaching style centers around instilling this love of learning, and in fostering the warmth and safety and warmth necessary to share in the experience.
My wife and I have two beautiful children, Henry and Grace, ages 2 and 3. I also have a little shih tzu/poodle named Sunny. My family means everything to me, and it is my philosophy that a teacher is to provide the same education to all of their students that they expect for their own children. I value your insights as parents, and I believe that my work is best carried out when we function as a team.
Here’s to having a great year!
Mr. Brendan Hatt
