Mr. Mark LaLonde
Thank you for visiting the Mitchell Elementary School website.
My name is Mark LaLonde, and I have been the proud principal of Mitchell Elementary since 2023. Prior to coming to Ann Arbor, I worked as a principal in Stockbridge, MI and at a National Blue Ribbon school in Baltimore, MD. I have also worked in the following roles as an educator in Washington DC Public Schools as a district level content expert in humanities, lead teacher, dean of students, department chair and as a highly effective classroom teacher. However, as a resident of Ann Arbor with my family, I am excited about the opportunity to serve the Mitchell Community.
At Mitchell, we take pride in developing our students into reflective life-long learners through our International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme. We stress the development of our students as inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who contribute to their community and world.
Our team is eager to work with you. I am available to discuss school issues with you and can be reached via email, voicemail or by appointment. We welcome the involvement of our families in making Mitchell Elementary the best place for children to learn and grow!

Dr. Bernard Bell
Hello Mitchell Families!
I am honored to serve as Assistant Principal at Mitchell Elementary School. I was born and raised in Ann Arbor and began my career in the Ann Arbor Public Schools as a teacher at Dicken Elementary and then continuing on at Mitchell Elementary. Prior to being named as the Assistant Principal at Mitchell Elementary, I served as a middle school Assistant Principal and Dean of Students in the San Jose Unified School District in San Jose, California. I hold a Master's degree from Eastern Michigan University in Educational Leadership, K-12 Administration as well as a Doctoral degree from Eastern Michigan University in Educational Leadership. My wife is a 5th grade teacher in the Ann Arbor Public School District, and we have children enrolled in the district.
Returning to Mitchell School is like coming home for me, and that is something that I hold in high regard. I believe there is no greater purpose than to work for the success and well-being of children. I believe that school should be a place of joy, curiosity, engagement, and growth. It’s a place where every child should be nurtured and their social, emotional, and academic needs met by a caring, committed staff. I’m excited to contribute to and support the great work already being done at Mitchell Elementary.
Thank you for your support,
Dr. Bell
