    Science Olympiad 2020

We are putting out the call for our WESO Science Olympiad Event Coaches for this year's Olympiad... Sign up now and I'll guarantee that your kiddo gets to participate in the event of their choice (provided we have a coach for it)

The SO this year has a few new events and plenty of old favorites...  check them out here:

The Olympiad this year is on May 9th.

Please consider helping out! The kiddos always appreciate your involvement! and come on... you didn't invent flying cars, so maybe with the right exposure to science at this young age, your child will!

    Thanks for your consideration,
Aaron Kraft (feel free to call my cell if you have any questions about what's involved..  734-395-4763)

    Talent Show

The talent show is on Friday, April 17th starting at 2:00 pm. (More Information)

Here are a few guidelines to keep the process smooth.

    • Tryouts will be held for the talent show. There is a possibility of having to ‘cut’ some of the acts that audition due to time constraints.
    • Acts, dancing and music choices must be school appropriate.
    • Each student trying out must have the permission slip below signed by their parent.
    • Permission slips must be turned in by Friday, March 27th.
    • If your child’s act needs music and you are not going to provide the music on a thumb drive or CD, then send $1 with your child so I can download the song.
    • If the act involves singing a song, some type of minimal dancing or arm movements must take place in the act.
    • Tryouts will be held on Monday, April 6th. I look forward to seeing amazing, diverse and well-rehearsed acts from all grades

    Important Information

How AAPS Will Help Distribute Census Information to Families/Students/Staff: The  2020 census will start in March and run through July. It will be different from previous ones as it is very short and answerable by phone, online or paper. It is crucial that everyone responds. The Ann Arbor Public Schools has agreed to work with the League of Women Voters Ann Arbor Area to help distribute information to families, students and staff about the 2020 Census.
Please know the intent of the 2020 Census is not to threaten or track undocumented individuals or families. The privacy of the 2020 Census is protected by law!

Raptor Visitor Information System: As part of the Ann Arbor Public School’s commitment to student safety, every school in the district is instituting a new visitor management check-in system at the main entrance greeter desk or in the front office.

To help us keep track of who is in our schools during the school day we ask that you present your identification, either a driver’s license or identification card when you visit the school. If you don’t have an identification card the Office Professional or Community Assistant at the high schools will assist you. Once you have presented your identification the first time you will be in the system and will no longer need to present your ID for future visits. This is true for visits to other AAPS schools as well.

The system creates a visitor badge for you to wear while you are visiting the school. Please remember to check out at the office or desk where the badge was issued upon completion of your visit. The visitor management system also checks your identification against the national sex offender database.

The benefits of a visitor management system for our schools include:

    • Up-to-date information about who is in our schools, where they are and the time they entered, especially important during any type of emergency drill or actual emergency situation.
    • Creates customized visitor badges with photos to easily identify visitors, contractors, volunteers, parents.

    • Provides instant and accurate screening off the national sex offender registry and custom alerts for custody restrictions, banned visitors, etc.

While the district must comply with the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 (FERPA) and the Children’s Internet.

Protection Act (CIPA), due diligence was conducted to ensure visitor’s Personal Identifiable.

Information (PPI) is secure. Note that the cost for the selected system comes as part of the Michigan State Police School Security grant that AAPS received, the second largest grant award in the state. We are pleased to provide another layer of security for our students and staff during the school day.

    Bus Tracker

The Ann Arbor Public Schools is excited to share news with those students and parents that utilize district-provided bus service. Our school bus partner, Durham School Services has provided an application, Bus Tracker, that allows parents and guardians to view the location of their child(ren)’s bus in real-time with relationship to their assigned bus stop. This application is available through a web browser or the app stores. Bus Tracker enables parents and guardians to view multiple stops on an assigned route, including the scheduled arrival time for each stop. The service is free of charge to parents/guardians and provided at no additional cost to the school districts serviced by Durham School Services. Use of the application is voluntary. For more information, to sign-up and create your secure login, or to use the application on your smartphone or web browser, please go to:

If you have any questions regarding the Bus Tracker application, please contact Tim VanDongen at (734) 994-2330 ext 54118.

Box Tops: Time to start the transition friends! Please download the app to your phone and scan those receipts! I will be honest, I'm struggling to remember! But I'm trying! I'm so used to clipping - and you can still clip them out of boxes. They will continue to count those as they phase out the ones we have used in the past. To learn more watch this helpful video:
