Mrs. Opfermann
Hello Pittsfield CommUNITY,
It is a great honor to transition into the role of Interim Principal at Pittsfield Elementary. From the moment I first walked through our front doors, I fell in love with the authenticity, compassion and kinship that the Pittsfield community embodies. Every day since then, I have dedicated my efforts to amplifying the spirit of camaraderie and achievement that we are known for. I consider it a true privilege to serve our students, staff, and families in this new capacity. As I embark on my fifth year at Pittsfield Elementary, I am reminded of how my professional career and personal experience have prepared me for this very moment.
My educational background includes a Bachelor’s Degree from Eastern Michigan University in Mathematics and Early Childhood Education and a Master’s Degree in Curriculum and Instructional Leadership. The collective work from these degree programs prepared me to begin my journey in education as an elementary and middle school classroom teacher at a public charter school in Detroit, Michigan. My impact in the classroom soon earned me the opportunity to serve as a Curriculum and Instructional Coach for the district. In this role, I worked collaboratively with staff, students and community members to implement effective instructional practices. Over the past five years, I have served as a Title I and Lead Teacher at Pittsfield, working closely with Ms. Alston to support the growth of our students, staff, families and community.
Outside of school, I am a wife and mother of two boys, the oldest of whom became a Pittsfield Penguin this fall! In our free time, we enjoy riding bicycles, watching movies, traveling and spending time in Northern Michigan. Keeping my family at the heart of all I do motivates me each day to put our children first. It is without question that Pittsfield Elementary is the most ideal place to continue this work.
As I complete my administrator's degree through the Michigan Association of Secondary School Principals’ Path to Leadership program, I pledge to uphold Pittsfield's mission of fostering “achievement for all in a safe and nurturing setting while honoring our diversity.” I am committed to uplifting the voices of our staff, students and stakeholders and embracing our pillars of equity, dignity and belonging. Together, we will continue to focus on educating the whole child and ensuring that each student who walks through our doors feels welcomed, safe and loved.
As an Ann Arbor Public Schools alumnus, I am grateful for the opportunity to serve as your Interim Principal. Please feel free to contact me via phone or email at opfermannc@aaps.k12.mi.us if you have any questions or concerns.
Yours in Education,
