Dear Parents/Guardians of Mr. Frankel’s Students:
My name is Andy Frankel and I am proud and excited to be your child’s third grade teacher this year at Pattengill. I look forward to working with each of you all year long to make this a successful year for everybody. This will be by seventh year at Pattengill, and 12th year as a teacher overall, having previously taught in Baltimore, MD. I hold a B.A in Journalism from the University of Maryland (College Park), and an M.A in Teaching and Leadership from Notre Dame University of Maryland.
My wife was born and raised in Ann Arbor, and after the birth of our first child (Evan, now 6 ½, 1st Grade at Lakewood) in February of 2014, we decided to move back here to be close to her family, and begin raising ours, in what we know is a wonderful place to do so. Along with my wife, my younger brother is also a graduate of the University of Michigan, so I know firsthand how special this community is, and I am proud to be a part of it myself. In May 2018, our family welcomed a sweet, baby girl named Abigail, who is now two years old.
Pattengill is a unique place where diversity is embraced, valued and celebrated. I honestly believe that our school community is the most special in all of Ann Arbor, and I feel lucky everyday to be able to work with our wonderful students, and watch them grow academically, socially and emotionally.
I take great pride in establishing a classroom culture of mutual respect and collaboration. Like I tell the kids, we are like a giant “family” or “team,” as we spend seven hours together each weekday. I want the kids to celebrate each other’s accomplishments, and help each other out when things aren’t going so well. I want all children to “Feel the Joy of Learning.” Here’s to a great year together!
