Mr. Dorn

Hi! I am thrilled to teach Project Lead the Way (PLTW) at King Elementary School! We will learn 21st century problem solving through STEAM education. I will co-teach two (PLTW) modules in K-2 classes. Each module takes about three weeks at about an hour a day, and is taught through the activity-project-problem sequence. All the while students engage the engineering design process: ask-explore-model-evaluate-explain.

Personally, I am a caring seeker of wisdom. I strive to be in the present, aware of the beauty around me. I believe, “it is better to learn how to fish together than to teach someone how to fish.” I presume competence. Everybody learns all the time.

In the past, I taught special education. Day to day, I cultivate healthy soil, and savor family time. I grew up in southeast Michigan. I studied ecology at University of Michigan, and special education at Eastern Michigan University. Between those degrees I completed Peace Corps Morocco, worked on organic farms, and ventured back and forth across North America. After finding the most beautiful landscape and surf on Vancouver Island I returned to southeast Michigan to put down roots.

I am amazed and inspired by flowers, kindness, stories, trees, laughter, and togetherness. I hope to remember to slow down, act generously, and breathe.
