Degrees and Certifications:

Mrs. Jenny Barcelata

¡Hola! Me llamo Jennifer Barcelata and I’m excited to be teaching 5th grade Spanish at Abbot, Angell, Bach, Burns Park, Logan, Pattengill and Pittsfield Elementary Schools.

I have two great kids, Marisol and Paolo, and an adorable dog, Pachi. In my free time, I love to hike, read and cook. Northern Michigan is my favorite place to be!

I began teaching Spanish at Pioneer High School in 2004, and am thrilled to be returning to Pittsfield Elementary, where I previously taught 5th grade.

I graduated from EMU where I majored in Spanish and minored in Bicultural Education. I studied abroad at La Universidad de Autónoma, en Querétaro, México, and I earned my master’s degree through the MAT Program of Marygrove College.

Throughout my life as a teacher and student, my passion for Spanish has enhanced my ability to convey and promote an excitement in my students for learning a language, not only the words, but the essence of the people in a country. My teaching ideology is about self-exploration and leading with culture.
