Ms. Heather Halabu
It is a true honor to take on the role of assistant principal of Martin Luther King, Jr. Elementary. I have been an educator in the Ann Arbor Public Schools for fifteen years teaching kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grade, and Reading Intervention at Angell and Thurston Elementary Schools. This past summer, I had the privilege of serving as principal for the AAPS Summer Learning Institute. I live here in Ann Arbor with my husband, who is also an educator, and our two energetic sons.
King’s reputation precedes itself as a thriving school with a dedicated staff, strong school spirit, and a highly involved parent community. I am eager to begin working alongside Mrs. Cooper and the staff to continue to advance the achievements of the school. I am also looking forward to connecting with families and collaborating with the PTO in support of the wonderful work that they do to strengthen the King learning community.
It is my strong belief that students need to feel a sense of belonging and community in order to succeed. My top priority in this new role will be building relationships with each and every student. I look forward to learning alongside children in their classrooms, making personal connections over lunch, and guiding children as they problem solve during play at recess. Having been a teacher for fifteen years, it is important for me to keep my finger on the pulse of the classroom and to support the fantastic teaching that is taking place. My door is always open and I looking forward to working in partnership with you.
Here's to a fantastic year ahead!
