We had a rousing night of slamming poetry on November 16, with four Community students winning spots in the city slam finals: Congratulations to Martha Ribant, Andie Tappenden, Nicole Tooley, and Emma Zielinski. Also going to the city slam is our own Thea Rowe, who won the Pioneer High School poetry slam earlier this year. Other CHS poets who wowed the crowd are Tolkien Bagchi, Grace Bates, Delia Benetti, Jonathan Corcoran, Dom Gatto, Elijah Klein, Ameera Salman, Sylvie Swerdlow, and Johnny Zrull. Way to go, poets!
The National Scholastic Press Association awarded The Communicator Magazine and The Communicator Online FIRST PLACE in Best of Show. This is a huge national award for Community High! Congratulations!
In addition, Gina Liu, Cammi Tirico, Leah Dame, Ruby Taylor, and Ava Millman received awards for their writing in the Journalism Education Association National Writing Competition. Way to go, Rainbow Zebras!
Congratulations to senior Quincy Jenkins for receiving the Young Men of Promise award from the Delta Psi Omega Chapter of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority! The chapter's annual Celebration of Black Men recognizes the contributions and accomplishments of local Black men who have made significant contributions to our community in the arts, community service, education, and business/economics, and as trailblazers. The Young Men of Promise award is granted during the celebration to area high school Black male seniors who are nominated by their high school counselors in recognition of their academic achievements and contributions to the school community.
Congratulations to members of Team 5708 Zebrotics on their Silver Medal performance in the Lakeview District Competition on April 7 & 8! It was a very close competition and we are proud of our Zebras' performance!
