    • Summer Term Registration is open
    • Fall Term Registration is open
    • Parent Note for the Week

ATTENTION: Students in Grades 6-8 taking A2V English or Math Classes

Thank you for completing the form.  The rosters are being put together, and you will receive information about sessions in a separate email.   Here is a link to a practice test that your child can take at home this week or before testing begins.

Summer Term 2021, Registration portal is open as of 9 am this morning

Summer Term information is now available online.  The summer term runs from June 28 through July 30, 2021.  A2Virtual+ will again be offering two options.  A no-cost option for students who want to repeat a class that they did not receive credit in or who want to repeat a class for a grade to replace a “G” or “S'' grade. To qualify for the no-cost option, the course that the student is requesting to take must appear on the student’s transcript during the 2020-2021 school year or second semester or third trimester of the 2019-2020 school year.  The second option is a reduced cost option for new credit or for retaking a class before the second semester or third trimester of 2019-2020.  These classes are offered at a reduced price of $169 ($100 savings).

Additionally, we will partner with Michigan Virtual to offer classes with them.  Ann Arbor Public Schools will cover $100 of the cost of these classes which means that the parent cost is $279.  Michigan Virtual has a longer summer term.  It begins May 21 and ends July 30, 2021.

All classes for the summer term end on July 30, 2021 and there will not be any extensions granted.  Because, there will not be any extensions it is important that students are available the entire term.  Students with a full-time work schedule or who are attending camps during the summer term may not be able to complete the work.  We estimate that each course will take approximately 100 hours.  That equates to 20 hours per week, per course for the summer term.

A list of available courses is on the webpage.  If you have any questions please feel free to contact our middle school counselor, Allan Loeb, or our high school counselor, Freda Didlake.

Fall Term 2021 Registration is now Open

    Parent Note for the Week:

The pandemic has been difficult for some students this year. At A2Virtual+ we have a couple of safety nets. These are in place to help the students who are struggling.

Students can withdraw from any A2Virtual+ class, even without a medical note.  A “W'' will appear on the transcript. However, before making the request it is always best to contact the student’s counselor to make sure that a withdrawal won’t jeopardize graduation or any other school event. The last day to withdraw from an A2Virtual+ class is this upcoming Friday, May 7, 2021. The form will shut off at 3 pm. Students who request a withdrawal this year will not be required to wait a year to take another A2Virtual+ class.

Students who have been working consistently (4-5 hours each week) and are earning between 45-59% can request up to two weeks extension. Students can apply for an extension from May 24, 2021 – May 27, 2021.  Both criteria need to be met in order to be granted an extension. Since the extensions are only for two weeks, students will not be granted an extension in all classes.

    Important Upcoming Dates:

May 3 — Sign-up registration for Summer Term and 2021-2022 A2Virtual+ classes is now open

May 5 — First day of Middle School NWEA Testing for A2V English and Math

May 7 — Last day to withdraw from an A2Virtual+ online course

May 24-27 — Window to request an extension

May 27 —  12th grade students must have earned 60% or better in the class to count towards graduation

June 10 — last day to complete work for Semester 2 — A2Virtual+ classes

    Parent Note for the Week:

Do you and your child know where to go for help while in an online course?  A2Virtual+ is asynchronous learning, students do not have regular access to their instructor.

    • One of the best ways to get information or to have questions answered is to attend the teacher’s office hours.  Each teacher has several different options to meet that are regularly scheduled.  You can find the time and links to the office hours inside each teacher’s Schoology classroom.
    • Another option is to email the instructor.  Instructors will respond within 24 hours.  Students should always move ahead in the course until questions are answered.
    • Students in APEX courses can attend the weekly Adventures in APEX session.  This is a weekly session on Mondays from 2:30-4:30 pm that was specially designed to help Middle school students.
    • Purdue University has an awesome free online resource for writing.  The link can be found here.
    • Don’t give up, reach out, our fabulous staff is here to help.

A2 Virtual+ News for the week ending April 16, 2021

    Good Evening,

This week concludes the tenth week of the term.  We are now at a point where students have worked for more weeks than remain in the semester.  Your student should be close to completing around 55% of the course.  Remember to have your students attend office hours for any questions they may have regarding the content.

This newsletter will focus on the following topics:

    • Middle School NWEA Testing
    • All students:  Testing other than NWEA
    • Senior Students - Grade 12
    • Summer Term
    • Middle School Parent Information Night
    • Parent Note for the Week
    • Free COVID-19 testing
    • Important Upcoming Dates

Here are the A2 Virtual+ notes for this week:

Middle School NWEA Testing for A2V students

NWEA testing will be during the month of May for A2 Virtual+ students.  Beginning on Wednesday, May 5, 2021, your child will be virtually engaged in taking NWEA Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) Assessment with the A2Virtual+ staff if your student has English, Math, or both classes with us.  If your student is taking either in the building then they will need to take that test with the building.  The easiest way to think of it is the student takes the NWEA with their assigned English or Math teacher.   A letter explaining the process is being sent home to the students who will be testing with us early next week.  Testing will begin on Wednesday, May 5, 2021.

All Students:  Testing other than NWEA

All students will need to take the state and national tests in their assigned building.   When you receive an email about testing for the PSAT, SAT, and/or M-Step plan on the student attending the dates and time listed in the communication.  These tests are considered secure and also have a paper requirement therefore have to be conducted in a face-face environment.  If you don’t want to have the student take a test or if you have questions contact the administrator or assigned counselor from your student’s building.  A2Virtual will NOT be administering the PSAT, SAT, and/or M-Step.

Senior Students - Grade 12 (repeated from last week)

It is time to start to think about the last days of schooling for our seniors.  Seniors must have a final grade of 60% or more in their classes on May 27, 2021.  Twelfth grade students who have not earned a final grade of at least 60% are reported to the counselor as failing.  This is the part of the graduation audit to ensure that the student has earned credit in the required classes for graduation.  However, with this being said, seniors can continue to work in the A2Virtual+ classes through June 10, 2021 if they are looking to better their grade.  The final grade on June 10, 2021 is what will show on the student’s transcript.

Summer Term 2021 (repeated from last week)

Summer Term information is now available online.  The summer term runs from June 28 through July 30, 2021.  A2Virtual+ will again be offering two options.  A no-cost option for students who want to repeat a class that they did not receive credit in or who want to repeat a class for a grade to replace a “G” or “S'' grade. To qualify for the no-cost option, the course that the student is requesting to take must appear on the student’s transcript during the 2020-2021 school year or second semester or third trimester of the 2019-2021 school year.

    Middle School Parent Information Night

This event is scheduled for Tuesday, April 20, 2021 at 5:30 pm.  A2 Virtual+ staff will be holding an Information Night regarding class options for Middle School students for the 2021-2022 school year.  This event is open to anyone interested in learning more about what is available to Middle School students.  The link to the meeting is https://a2schools.zoom.us/j/91800122239.

    Parent Note for the Week

The “ABOUT” tab is the second option on the banner of the A2Virtual+ webpage.    There  is very important information here.  If you hover over the tab a dropdown menu will appear, and you will be able to find our calendar, Student/Parent/Guardian Guide, and our policies.  The Student/Parent/Guardian Guide is your handbook to all things A2Virtual+.  The policy section goes into detail about each policy.  This includes the withdrawal policy, extension policy, and the academic dishonesty/plagiarism policy.  These three policies all can impact the remaining days of this term.  If you haven’t reviewed the Student/Parent/Guardian Guide (which is linked at the bottom of each newsletter) or the policies, please do so this weekend.  If you have a student who has an IEP, 504, or ATM I hope you have reviewed our IEP/504/ATM Guide which can be found at the bottom of each newsletter and on our website under the parent tab.
