Mr. Watson

Mr. Watson grew up in Grand Rapids Michigan, and most of his family still lives there. Mr. Watson loves spending time with his wife who is also a teacher for the Ann Arbor Public School District. They love to travel and practice yoga together. In Mr. Watson’s downtime he loves to play with his new puppy (Tanner), run in Gallup Park, and watch his favorite football teams. Mr. Watson still has his favorite team T-shirt from the San Francisco 49ers that he purchased as a little boy.

Mr. Watson has always been passionate about the topic of education. He loved to help kids at a young age and he knew he wanted to be an educator. Therefore, Mr. Watson went to The Ohio State University and received his Bachelor’s degree in Human Ecology with an emphasis in Early Childhood Development and Education. He also received a Master’s degree in Elementary Education PreK-3rd grade with an emphasis in Early Childhood Development from The Ohio State University. After he graduated he relocated back to Michigan to teach in the Ann Arbor Public School District. This is Mr. Watson’s 13th year in education as a teacher and administrator. He has taught 2nd grade, 3rd grade, 4th grade, and 5th grade in the Ann Arbor Public School District, and he has served on numerous district and school committees. Mr. Watson fell in love with the Lawton community as soon as he joined the team as Assistant Principal last December. Mr. Watson loves to greet students first thing in the morning. “I want to make sure the students know that we are here to make sure that they have a wonderful educational experience and I want to start their day off right. It is a refreshing and joyful experience to see all of their smiling faces in the morning.”

Mr. Watson’s Educational Philosophy

I believe that each and every one of our students embodies genius. I am a firm believer that all students can reach beyond what they think is possible to aspire for greatness. We can ensure this by providing a safe, equitable, and rigorous learning environment where students are willing to take risks, and support one another.
