    Vada Murray Educational Scholarship

    The Ann Arbor Police Benevolent Association is proud to announce the Vada Murray Educational Scholarship. This scholarship application will be open to
    all college bound Ann Arbor public high school seniors. The recipient of the scholarship will receive $1000 for the 2022/2023 collegiate school year.

    The scholarship is intended to be used for college tuition and other school related expenses.

    Vada Murray graduated from the University of Michigan in 1991 and played football for the Wolverines. Upon graduation, Vada followed his dream to
    become a police officer and was hired by the Ann Arbor Police Department. He was a dedicated, hardworking police officer for AAPD until he passed away in April 2011. Vada loved his family, friends, the University of Michigan, his law enforcement career and the City of Ann Arbor.


    College bound high school seniors, currently enrolled in a public high school within the City of Ann Arbor. AAPBA members are not eligible.

    Application Requirements

    Complete the application thoroughly and accurately (add an additional typed page if needed).

    Submit a one page, typed essay describing your interest in this scholarship, future academic and career goals, volunteer and leadership activities.

    Provide proof of enrollment and/or acceptance for the university or college with the application.

    Applicants will receive an email notification upon receipt of the application. The scholarship winner will be notified by July 1, 2022.

    For Athletes at Pioneer, Huron and Skyline

    • Don Simons Memorial Scholarship: Available to a Huron, Pioneer or Skyline High School Athlete who is struggling to pay for athletic-related expenses. Application.

    For Huron High School Students

    • Taylor Calhoun Social Inclusion Scholarship: This scholarship is for student struggling to pay for items such as dental bills, senior photos, letter jackets, testing fees and more. Contact Nina Perko in the Counseling Office for additional details. 

    For Scarlett Middle School Students

    • Spencer J. Steiff Music Camp Scholarship: The Spencer J. Steiff Music Camp Scholarship provides financial assistance for band students at Scarlett Middle School to attend a music camp in Michigan. For additional details, contact the Scarlett Middle School Counselor or Band Director.  

    For Haisley Elementary School Students

    • Peter Stamos Camp Scholarship: Two scholarships will be awarded annually to third or fourth grade boys or girls to attend KidSport or Camp Explorations at the University of Michigan. Contact studentscholarships@a2school.org for details.
