Week 4

ELA
We will continue the reading unit, "Readers Read With Power." Students will discuss problem-solving confusing texts, summarizing, writing about thinking, comparing texts, reading with expression, and reflecting and goal setting.
We will also continue our word study program, "Morpheme Magic." Students will study the suffix -ed and then the suffix -ing.
Math
We will continue the unit, "Area and Volume." Students will work with volume.
Social Studies
We will continue the unit, "The Land We Stand On." Students will discuss ownership and how it interacts with their names, power and why we study different narratives, and perspectives on land ownership and how to examine primary sources.
Science
We will continue the unit, "Round and Round It Goes." Students will discuss why living things can't live alone and how animals use food for energy. They will also take the first assessment on Thursday (10-5). They may use their notes from our lessons during the assessment.
HealthWe will continue the unit, "Social and Emotional Health." Students will discuss how to tell others what bothers us, healthy ways to handle harassment, as well as practice positive ways to end bullying. -
Week 3

ELA
We will continue the reading unit, "Readers Read With Power." Students will discuss pacing, reading between the lines, imagining the scenes and between the scenes, and figuring out details.
We will also continue our word study program, "Morpheme Magic." Students will study the suffixes -s and -es and then the suffix -ed.
Math
We will begin the unit, "Area and Volume." Students will be introduced to the Student Reference Book, learn how to find the area of a rectangle, and be introduced to volume concepts.
Social Studies
We will continue the unit, "The Land We Stand On." Students will discuss ownership and how it interacts with their identity, stereotypes, and their names.
Science
We will continue the unit, "Round and Round It Goes." Students will study ecosystems that change and apply a food web model.
HealthWe will continue the unit, "Social and Emotional Health." Students will discuss how to manage strong feelings and how to tell others what bothers us. -
Week 2

ELA
We will continue our first reading unit, "Readers Read With Power." Students will discuss how to set goals and choose books.
We will also continue our word study program, "Morpheme Magic."
Math
We will continue an introductory unit.
Social Studies
We will continue the unit, "The Land We Stand On." Students will discuss ownership.
Science
We will begin the unit, "Round and Round It Goes." Students will do a virtual nature walk and discuss the interactions the observe.
HealthWe will begin our first health unit, "Social and Emotional Health." Students will discuss how we can make sure that our classroom is a caring and compassionate space. -
Week 1

We will spend Tuesday continuing our work of getting to know each other, setting expectations, setting up the classroom, and learning classroom and school procedures!
ELA
We will begin our first reading unit, "Readers Read With Power." Students will learn how to take charge of their reading, inference, and use reading logs. Some students will do baseline reading assessments.
We will also begin our word study program, "Morpheme Magic." Students will do a baseline spelling assessment, then begin working with morphemes.
Math
We will begin an introductory unit.
Social Studies
We will begin the unit, "The Land We Stand On." Students will think about themselves as Social Scientists.
Science
We will do a fun introductory lesson.
HealthWe will begin our first health unit, "Social and Emotional Health." Students will discuss how we can make sure that our classroom is a caring and compassionate space. -
Week 37

We will continue to read and write independently and complete our Lexia goals.
We will also continue our word study program, "Words Their Way." Students will continue working in groups with spelling patterns based on the data I receive from the assessments.
Math
We will continue to work on Dreambox lessons.
Social Studies
We will continue the unit, "A New Nation." Students will continue and present a project regarding a current issue and the U.S. Constitution.
Science
There will be no Science lessons next week.
Health
There will be no Health lessons next week. There is a follow up packet from our Safety lesson this week in your child's Friday Folder. -
Week 36

ELA
I will give students time to revise their writing projects from the school year (personal narrative, persuasive essay, and colony research project) and then reassess them for the report card.
We will continue to read and write independently and complete our Lexia goals.
We will also continue our word study program, "Words Their Way." Students will continue working in groups with spelling patterns based on the data I receive from the assessments.
Math
We will continue taking the End-of-the-Year assessment and do a fun Math Project.
Social Studies
We will continue the unit, "A New Nation." Students will begin a project regarding a current issue and the U.S. Constitution.
Science
We will continue the unit, "Go With the Flow" with Mrs. O'Leary.
Health
We will continue the unit, "Safety." Students will learn about personal safety. -
Week 35

We will continue the unit, "Historical Fiction." Students will compare themes and reflect on goals.

We will review for the Unit 7 assessment on Monday (5-22) and then take the assessment on Wednesday (5-24). We will also review for the End-of-the-Year assessment on Thursday (5-25) and take the assessment starting on Friday (5-26).
Social Studies
We will continue the unit, "A New Nation." Students will discuss the U.S Constitution, including individual rights and the founding fathers.
Science
We will continue the unit, "Go With the Flow" with Mrs. O'Leary.
Health
We will begin the unit, "Reproductive Health." Please watch for information and homework sheets that will come home on Tuesday (5-23), Wednesday (5-24), and Thursday (5-25). These sheets can help you start and continue a dialogue with your child about this subject. -
Week 34

We will continue the unit, "Historical Fiction." Students will discuss researching to learn more about the historical events in texts, stereotypes, and gender norms.
We will continue to read and write independently and complete our Lexia goals. I will continue working with small groups.
We will also continue our word study program, "Words Their Way." Students will continue working in groups with spelling patterns based on the data I receive from the assessments.
Math
We will continue the unit, "Multiplication of Mixed Numbers; Geometry; Graphs." Students will use rules, tables, and graphs.
Social Studies
We will continue the next unit, "A New Nation." Students will discuss the U.S Constitution, including representation and slavery.
Science
We will continue the unit, "Go With the Flow" with Mrs. O'Leary.
Health
We will continue the unit, "Safety." Students will discuss how to stay safe when home alone and when out in the public. -
Week 33

We will continue the unit, "Historical Fiction." Students will discuss opinions and complex characters, compare themes, and interpret ideas.
We will continue to read and write independently and complete our Lexia goals. I will continue working with small groups.
We will also continue our word study program, "Words Their Way." Students will continue working in groups with spelling patterns based on the data I receive from the assessments.
Math
We will continue the unit, "Multiplication of Mixed Numbers; Geometry; Graphs." Students will categorize quadrilaterals and polygons in hierarchies, collect and use fractional data, and identify and visualize patterns.
Social Studies
We will continue the unit, "The American Revolution." Students will discuss the Battle of Yorktown, different perspectives during the war, and the Treaty of Paris. We will also begin the next unit, "A New Nation." Students will discuss the Articles of Confederation.
Science
We will continue the unit, "Go With the Flow" with Mrs. O'Leary.
Health
We will begin the unit, "Safety." Students will discuss how to have fun and stay safe and how to stay safe when home alone. -
Week 32

ELA
We will continue the unit, "Historical Fiction." Students will discuss character struggles, learning from life lessons, and perspectives. Students will participate in historical fiction book clubs throughout the unit.
We will continue to read and write independently and complete our Lexia goals. I will continue working with small groups.
We will also continue our word study program, "Words Their Way." Students will continue working in groups with spelling patterns based on the data I receive from the assessments.
Math
We will continue the unit, "Multiplication of Mixed Numbers; Geometry; Graphs." Students will find the area of rectangles with fractional side lengths and use common denominators for fraction division.
Social Studies
We will continue the unit, "The American Revolution." Students will discuss the Battle of Saratoga and Valley Forge.
Science
We will continue the unit, "Go With the Flow" with Mrs. O'Leary.
Health
We will begin the unit, "Safety." Students will discuss how to have fun and stay safe.
