Degrees and Certifications:

Ms. Katie Gibson

I am thrilled to begin my eleventh year in Education as a Haisley Husky. As Building Literacy Expert, I am looking forward to partnering with the staff, students and caregivers of the Haisley community.

I hold a Bachelor of Science in Speech Pathology & Audiology and Elementary Education from Western Michigan University and Master of Arts from the University of Michigan in Language Arts with an ESL Endorsement. I began my teaching career in 2011 at Riverside Elementary in Battle Creek. At Riverside I taught third grade for three years and pursued my love of teaching mathematics and curriculum design and served as an Instructional Team Leader. This will be my eighth year in the Ann Arbor Public Schools. I have taught both 4th grade and 1st grade at Lawton Elementary. For the last 5 summers I have collaborated with UofM School of Education and the ESL department in the role of lead teacher and mentor teacher at the SESLA: Summer English as a Second Language Academy which takes place at Scarlett Middle School grades 4-8.

Ms. Gibson’s Educational Philosophy:

“I believe that each individual has the potential to bring something unique to the world. I will help students reach their full potential by believing in them as capable individuals-we will find the genius in everyone. Through conversations and interactive learning, students will have the opportunity to learn, respect and embrace their differences and experiences. My role is to give students and teachers the tools with which to cultivate a love of learning through experiences and professional development that is both relevant and engaging.”
