We had another great week! We finished setting up our room and did more team building activities. I am very impressed with their collaboration!

It is important that I know your child's dismissal plan. Thanks for letting me know how your child will get home Monday - Friday on a normal basis. Please notify me if there are any permanent or temporary dismissal plan changes before 11:30 the day of the change. Welcome!

Aside from missing one day, we had a fabulous week! It was so great meeting all of your children and I am looking forward to working with them this school year! We spent a lot of time getting to know each other, team building, and setting up our classroom.

    Materials

I will have all of the school materials that your child will need for classroom use available as needed. They will need to bring a water bottle, lunch, and snack (fruit or veggie only). Please see the placement letter that was sent via email or Mrs. Clinkscale's Dream Keeper newsletter for information regarding free breakfast/lunch if your child will be getting breakfast/lunch from the cafeteria.

    Devices and Headphones

I do not know yet when devices will be handed out, but when they do, your child needs to bring them home and back to school every day. I do not have a secure place to keep them overnight. Please send a set of headphones in a baggie labeled with your child's name if you can. These should be left at school and will be used every day. I have extras if your child doesn't have any to bring to school.

    Assessment Binders/Friday Folders

Assessment Binders and Friday Folders will come home with your child at the end of each week and need to be returned the next school day. The binders contain all of their assessments, goals, and reflections. The Friday Folders contain their completed work and any papers from the office. Please take time over the weekend to read through your child's things.

    Mulching:
On Tuesday (6-6), we will help mulch the playground. Please be sure that your child has appropriate clothing and a water bottle.

    Movie and Popcorn:
On Wednesday (6-7), we will watch a movie. I am buying an individual bag of original Skinny Pop popcorn for each student. There is a Ticket to Taste in your child's Friday Folder. Please fill it out letting me know if I can give your child a bag of popcorn, or if they will be bringing a snack from home, and return it by Wednesday (6-7). I am not able to give any students a bag of popcorn unless I have a Ticket to Taste stating that it is okay.

    Fuller Pool Field Trip:
On Thursday (6-8), we will head to Fuller Pool for a picnic and pool time. The pool has an area that is shallow, a lap pool, a deep end, and a water slide. Students will need to pass a swim test given by the lifeguards to swim in the deep end. Lifeguards will be on duty. We will be gone from King School from 9:30-2:00. Your child needs a lunch, water bottle, swim suit, towel, and change of clothes. I already have permission slips for all students (thanks!) and the entrance fee and bus is being paid for by our PTO (thanks PTO!).

    Last Day of School:
Friday (6-9) is our last day of school. It is a half day. We will have a 5th Grade celebration at 9:30. Families are welcome! After the celebration we will be on the playground to sign yearbooks until we head in to line up for our Clap Out! Dismissal will begin right after the Clap Out. Your child only needs to bring a pencil/pen/etc. for yearbook signing and they need to wear their 5th Grade T-shirt that came home with them this past Wednesday.

King Learning Garden 2023 Summer Help

It is that time of year where we are thinking about the school year coming to a close, BUT...the garden is still growing!  We are hoping that you will consider adopting the garden for a week or more this summer.  Our students and families have learned, cared, loved, and spent time taking care of the King Learning Garden during the school year.  Without your help and the help of others, the garden can't grow over the summer. This involves weeding, watering and harvesting during your week.

We will be sending out volunteer information on step by step directions of how to care for the garden if you sign up!  This year we are planting a lot!  So we are hoping for some extra help (and there might be fresh goodies to take home and enjoy too).  SUMMER 2023 VOLUNTEER SIGN UP CLICK HERE FOR SUMMER 2023 KLG VOLUNTEER

    No School:
There is no school next Monday (5-29)

    Farmer's Market Field Trip:
We will head to the Farmer's Market on Wednesay (5-31). Once we get back, students will have the opportunity to divide up the food they purchased with their group. Please be sure that your child brings a bunch of different containers to bring food and drinks home in. I will not have any extras, so they may not be able to bring anything home if they don't have containers.

    End-of-the-Year Slideshow Help:
Two weeks ago, I shared slides with your child for our end-of-the-year slideshow on Schoology. Please help them to find a picture of when they were young and a recent picture for them to add to their slide. Slides are due today (5-26).

    StoryWalk

    King Elementary School

This year, King Elementary received the AAPS Environmental Action Mini-Grant for a StoryWalk project.  A StoryWalk contains laminated pages from a children's book attached to signs, which are installed along an outdoor path. As you walk down the path, you're directed to the next page in the story.  We chose the book, Butterfly Child by Marc Majewski for our first DIY version of a StoryWalk and are providing prompts on each page to engage students.  These prompts include information about pollinator gardens, discussion questions such as "What would you do if you saw unkindness?" and movement moments.  We hope that this StoryWalk will provide students with a fun, educational, and healthy way to enjoy a book outdoors.
