Ms. Bankey
Third GradeDear Pattengill Families,
Hello! My name is Lisa Bankey and I am one of the third-grade teachers at Pattengill Elemenary. I am so happy to welcome you and your child to Pattengill and to my class for the school year.
I have been a teacher in the Ann Arbor Public Schools for over ten years. I attended the University of Michigan where I earned a B.A. and Masters from the School of Information. I live in Ann Arbor with my husband Christopher and two college-aged daughters, Madeline and Sophie. We have a dog named Piccadilly. My interests are on the nerdy side. I love Star Wars (especially the Millennium Falcon) and Harry Potter. My favorite subject is Science. I am a member of the district science committee, responsible for training other teachers in our Phenomenal Science Curriculum that supports the Next Generation Science Standard. With the shift to online learning, I designed district-wide grade-level science curriculum and provided teachers with support on the district’s Continuous Learning Plan, implemented to finish the 2019-2020 school year and through the 2020 - 2021 school year. During the summers I am the Coordinating ELA Elementary teacher for the SISS Summer Academy for the 2020 and 2021 summer school program. During this time I designed reading and writing curriculum and trained teachers to teach online and in-person courses as well as instructed SISS Summer Academy courses.
I truly enjoy learning and love to pass this passion on to students as we learn together over the school year. We will explore weather, forces, animal traits, and habitats in science. In math, we will build on and expand math skills students learned in second grade and learn about fractions, multiplication, and division. For reading, we will continue with guided reading and our writing will be integrated with our social studies units and health units. Our social studies units will focus on our great state – Michigan!
I look forward to learning more about you and your child during the school year. We are going to have many amazing opportunities to both learn and have fun together.
Sincerely Yours,
Ms. Lisa Bankey
