Parents and students are given many choices for how they will learn during the 20-21 school year. In an effort to help you understand the different options, a brief description is given below. Any questions regarding A2 Student Link or A2 Classroom Connect should be directed to the district office. The definitions below are just to help distinguish the differences between each option.
A2 Virtual+ Academy - Asynchronous*, Remote Learning Self-paced Option:
Students participate in self-paced, asynchronous learning with assigned AAPS instructor support. Students will learn remotely but will have all lessons presented from the beginning of the course. The student will move at their own pace with the expectation that they complete a minimum amount of work in each content area. The instructor will provide interaction with each student for the purpose of teaching, guiding, evaluating, and providing assistance throughout the term by email, phone, text, and weekly remote video conferencing office hours. Students who choose this option intend to remain fully remote even as the State and District move through various stages of reopening. A2 Virtual+ Academy students retain their home-building status. This is an online program, not a cyber-school. We are offering a full load of classes this year due to the remote learning environment in schools. To complete registration for the A2 Virtual+ Academy option for the 2020-2021 school year, the parent needs to enroll the student on our webpage. Complete the form, choose the appropriate grade that the student would be in for this year.
An enrollment form will be sent to the emails entered during the registration process confirming we have received your request. Students and parents will be sent another email (to the address used on the form) during the week of September 8, 2020, giving teacher contact information and directions on how to access the course.
A2 Student Link - Synchronous*, Remote Learning Community Option:
Students attend classes with AAPS teachers and students across the district who wish to learn in a fully remote community. Teachers will hold scheduled class meetings four out of five days and students will be given assignments to work on for all days. Lessons are structured weekly and students will move at the pace of the classroom. Students who choose this option intend to remain fully remote even as the State and District move through various stages of reopening.
A2 Classroom Connect - Synchronous*, Remote Learning Neighborhood Option:
Students attend classes remotely with AAPS teachers and students from their neighborhood school. As the school year begins, this option will look very similar to A2 Student Link. Teachers will hold scheduled class meetings four out of five days and students will be given assignments to work on for all days. Lessons are structured weekly and students will move at the pace of the classroom. Students who choose this option however will return to the classroom/building in the various schedules as allowed by the State and District through various stages of safe reopening. A student is given the option to remain remote when we begin building re-entry.
The intent is that the student will remain in the option that they chose for the 2020-2021 school year. However, at a minimum, students must remain in the chosen education option for at least the semester (January 29, 2021).
*Dictionary Definition:
synchronous-existing or occurring at the same time. (Teachers and students will be meeting at assigned daily/weekly times using a video conference for lectures and/or discussions. This is regular component of this learning option.)
asynchronous- not existing or happening at the same time. (Students work at their own pace during the week. There are no assigned times during the day/week for all students to meet together with a teacher. Teachers facilitate the online learning process and provide help through email and during office hours or by appointment.)
