Superintendent Back to School Welcome Message
    Monday, August 30, 2021

Hello AAPS Students and Staff, Families and Community,

We are so pleased you have chosen the Ann Arbor Public Schools, and we are delighted to welcome you to a brand new 2021-22 school year!

Our AAPS team has worked hard to prepare for one goal, they are laser focused with one desired outcome in mind: to welcome each of our beautiful students into our AAPS classrooms and schools on Monday, August 30, 2021 for a strong start to this school year. You may want to check out this brief video to share in a few highlights of the many preparations for this exciting back-to-school time.

Soon, our students and staff will be learning and growing together each day in classrooms and schools across the Ann Arbor Public Schools. It is an exciting time of opportunity as we come together as members of this Ann Arbor community to ‘turn the page’ to the beginning of this brand new school year and the full reopening of the Ann Arbor Public Schools.

We understand that this is also a time with many questions as we reopen schools amid the continuing COVID pandemic. We remain deeply committed to the fundamental priority of health and safety for our students and staff in our schools, for our families and community. We will remain vigilant in practicing the AAPS COVID-19 health and safety protocols: vaccination for all who qualify, universal masking while indoors, observing public health protocols such as remaining home when experiencing symptoms, limiting visitors in the schools, and others.

As we look forward to this school year, we are focusing on these critical words from our AAPS equity plan as they represent our shared commitment to each child and family this year: Every child will be known by name, by strength, by story, by need, and by culture, and every child will be connected to a caring, committed and competent adult at school.

In the Ann Arbor Public Schools, we understand the important value each child brings and our critical mission of serving Every Child on Every Day. Every child known, and every child connected: this is the collective promise we make to our students, to their families, and to our Ann Arbor community. Our precious children are valued in our classrooms for who they are and we remain committed that all our students will continue to experience the safe haven of a warm, welcoming, inclusive and supportive classroom environment on each and every day at school.

We will remain in ongoing communication as we move together, step-by-step, through this fall back-to-school time. Truly, we are stronger when we work together.

Whenever we can assist you in any way, please call on us. We recognize that you have options when selecting a school for your children and we thank you for choosing the Ann Arbor Public Schools. Thank you for all your support of our students and staff, of the Ann Arbor Public Schools and our beautiful Ann Arbor community.

Welcome, and we wish you an excellent 2021-22 school year!
