Welcome to the 23-24 school year Open families! I am excited to be starting my third full year as a member of the staff at Open. I've been known to wear multiple hats in the building and this year seems to be no different, as I will be starting off the year teaching 1st/2nd grade. The kids will be in excellent hands with both Sara Vos and Giedra Bowser, but I am excited to be back in the gym later this Fall!
If your child is in Y5-2, Tori or Dr. Sheril's 3/4, or in 5/6 I will be their PE teacher. An amazing part of being a Specials teacher is getting to know kids year after year. I also think my job is especially fun because I get to spend a lot of time designing new games, introducing them to students, and having them help me make them even better by adding their own ideas and variations! This year I am hoping to offer a week when families have the opportunity to come in and join their students for PE to see what our program is all about and join in on experiencing a small piece of their student's day. Stay tuned for more details on that event as well as other PE events such as our adaptive sports unit and assembly and our cosmic bowling week.
Please help your child to bring gym shoes on their PE day(s). We have a limited supply of shoes to borrow when they forget or get too muddy at recess, but kids are most comfortable and safest playing in their own shoes.
