Posted by Tony Whiren on 11/13/2023CongRATulations to the Boys' Polo Team!Huron River Rat Water Polo Boys were FIFTH in the State Tournament at Groves over the weekend!(In the photo, they are winning 2nd in Regionals).Both senior captains were named to the All-State All-Season Teams, Kal Bunnell to the Honorable Mention team, and Graham Baker, to the First Team. -Sonya Shelgikar (Senior) ran a
personal best, finishing in the top 50th.
-Lucinda Paliani (Junior) ran a personal best as well. Qualifying for her 3rd straight State championship meet.
-Both runners earned Academic All-State honors!Men's X/C State Finals:
-Walker Brose (Junior) -PR and finishing in the top half of over 262 runners
-Lucas Weintraub (Senior Captain) -PR and finishing in the top half of over 262 runners
-Henry Beard (Senior Captain)- Ended year on a great run!Men's Polo:
-The men's team qualified for the State tournament this weekend (11-10,11-23.) They will open up with Hudsonville at 7:45 p.m. this Friday.
Note: Winning will put them in the top 4; if they lose, it will put them in the rounds for placing in the top 8. For more information on the Water Polo States, please get in touch with Coach Barnett or me at riverratwaterpolo@gmail.com.Women's SEC meet update:
Huron ladies' swim and dive did very well; coaches stated "they were very proud" of the team and everyone's efforts. Many PRs were set and competed in every event. A few state cuts were also earned. The season continues as they approach the state finals in two weeks. Good Luck! -

Posted by Tony Whiren on 10/30/2023Saturday's X/C Women's Regional results-Sonya Shelgikar (6th) and Lucy Paliani (15th) qualified for next Saturday's State Meet at MIS in Brooklyn, MI. They will race at 2:10 p.m.-Lucy(11th grade) has qualified for the State meet for three years.-Other Lady runners who ran personal bests on Saturday:Tanishka TewariHarper PintoIrene KimJulieta TuronRachael KimChloe TuttleSylvia IrwinBeatrice StauntonSaturday's X/C Men's Regional results-Walker Brose, Lucas Weintraub, and Henry Beard have qualified for next Saturday's D1 State meet at MIS in BrooklynMen's water polo Regionals
The River Rats qualified for the State Championship with a win over Birmingham Seaholm Friday night, 14-8. They finished second in the region and will travel to Birmingham Groves on Friday, Nov. 12th, for the first game of States. Congratulations are for both captains—Graham Baker (#15), MVP of the entire East Region, and Kal Bunnell (#8), first player named to the Second Team East Region. Paul Barnett and Tommy Magner coach the Rats.Football Playoffs- round oneHuron lost to #1 Belleville Friday night. Posted by Tony Whiren on 10/27/2023At the Men's Tennis State Finals, the Huron finished 11th overall. Charles Ma lost in the quarterfinals, while Hassan Hejazi and Warren Gunnar lost in the finals. Congratulations to the team and individuals!

Regional tournament results and the team heading to D1 State Finals. Warren Gunnar and Hassan Hejazi were the one doubles champions. Charles Ma was the one singles champion. Sam Regenbogen reached the finals in the four-singles flight, and Nihar Gundala reached the finals at number two singles.

October 11, 2023 - Athletics Update
Posted by Tony Whiren on 10/11/2023Men's SoccerWinning the SEC RED conference. Playing Pioneer on 10-12-23 @ Pioneer in 1st round of district play! Having a fantastic year! Go Rats!The boy's X/C:The team finished 2nd at a Monroe Jefferson Invite. "Half of our runners ran to either their lifetime best or their best time of this current season." Coaches are happy with their efforts and time!The girl's X/CRunning well and working towards qualifying for states.Girls golf :Currently 7-2 in conference play, with four conference matches left. We have a good shot at winning the conference this season. We have taken two 3rd-place finishes at invites and 2-0 in non-conference matches.
Huron Volleyball:Volleyball has played tough against SEC competitors. They are working hard to build their offense and have been giving teams a big fight defensively. The team is doing well overall. Huron will host the SEC "RED" volleyball jamboree on 10-21-23. Come out and check them out.
The Boys Varsity Tennis:The team is currently 7-3-1 and tied for second place in the SEC Red Division.-Winning side in the East vs. West Showdown. In these events, we have had Hassan Hejazi and Warren Gunnar win first place at two events. Sam Regenbogen and Nihar Gundala each captured one second-place finish in their flights. Currently, those three will be the number 1 seed at regionals. Hejazi/Gunnar at 1 double, Gundala at 2 singles. And Regenbogen at 4 singles. Sean Miao and Luke Mathew have an outside chance at being the number 1 seed at the 4-double position.-The team is working exceptionally well together.-Alex Hiner leads the JV team. He has 12 boys working hard and having fun. They do not track wins and losses for the JV, but they have played well and continue to improve.Equestrian TeamThe team showed up and placed 6th in their divisions at regionals. They didn't qualify for States but dominated in jumping and proudly represented the Ann Arbor schools. The athletes were poised, strong, and resilient! They laughed, danced, and loved being together. We also brought almost 100% of the diversity to the competition.Huron student- Sydney placed 1st in jumping in division B and 5th with her partner (Siofra Poppens Pioneer class of 2026) in the two-person relay. The relay had about 16-18 teams!FootballVarsity is 4-3 overall, and they still have a shot for the playoffs. Huron host Pioneer on 10-12-23 @ 7 PMJV and Fr sharing players due to very talented players - JV 5-2 currently, having a great season, one of the best in years.Swim and Dive:Many swimmers are making state cuts and doing very well. "Come out to a meet."CheerCoach states: We are proud of our cheer girls- Sophomore Lexi Jones and Senior Qaurtney Jackson -who were selected for Hurons 2023 Homecoming Court.Field HockeyRiver Rats played well against the #1 team in the region, Skyline. Skyline is packed with seniors and 4 D1 recruits; "Skyline did their best to mercy us, but we held on." They missed a few scoring opportunities, but the Rat's defense managed to hold their shots and corners to a minimum.The team traveled to Oak Park, Illinois, for the "Huskie Invitational" and played many state/national ranked teams.Men's PoloMen playing well and holding their own in the pool. Have to check them out!Lastly:SEC Scholar-Athlete (Seniors with a 3.2 or better)100% (means all Seniors on the team were SEC Scholar-Athletes. Pretty amazing!)-Swim- 100%-Men's X/C- 100%-Men's Tennis- 100%-Women's Golf- 100%
