    Men's and Women's Bowling Update

Please get in touch with the Athletic office at 734-994-2075 or AD at 734-972-6005 for information on joining the bowling team for the 23-24 school year.  Due to insufficient numbers, we could not have a "club team" for both men and women for the 22-23 season.  We are also looking for a new coach; support would be greatly appreciated.

    Football Update

AD is meeting with the wt rm coach to try to find 2-3 days to meet for wt rm workouts starting after Christmas break like we have in the past. Making sure we have proper supervision for these days, a plan put into place.  Postings for new positions will be going up before Christmas break; Admin is working on the football committee for hiring of a new head varsity/program coach.  Again any questions please address AD Tony Whiren at 734-994-2075.

    9th Grader MHSAA Survey

The MHSAA is requesting that 9th-grade students participate in a survey regarding their interests in participating in the future in the sports for which the MHSAA conducts postseason tournaments or in other sports for which the MHSAA has no involvement.

    https://surveys.mhsaa.com/s3/MHSAA-Student-Interest-Survey?s=3932&r=b&d=a

9th Graders are asked to complete the survey by Nov. 22, 2022.

Thank you for your time and effort in assisting the MHSAA to meet the future needs of member schools and our students.

    Hello Huron families and student-athletes:
Our CO-OP for men's and women's bowling has ended with Pioneer, per MHSAA; what does this mean if Huron is going to remain a "club bowling team" in the SEC conference? I need to see who is returning and who may be interested in joining. If your son or daughter is interested in bowling, please reach out to Huron's Athletic office as soon as you can at 734-994-2075; or go to the athletic website at a2huron.org for more contact information. If we remain a club sport for the 22-23 seasons, there are many steps and processes. The deadline for notification of interest is 9-30-22.

If you qualify for free or reduced lunch, come to the Athletic Office to collect a Free/Reduced application form.  It will take Food Services 48 hours to process your paperwork if you already have an account.  If you do not, please go to this web; https://www.a2schools.org/Page/555 "knives and forks" symbol to walk you through the process.

Also, note there are team fees and a district fee, "Pay to Play."  All this information is on the Website.   Alternatively,  the head coaches can also walk you through the process.

Lastly, Huron's first home football game will be played at U of M stadium on 8-26-22; tickets will not be sold at the door.  You can purchase tickets at the Athletic Office or during the week of registration, Aug. 15th -19th (All week); there will be a table/booth. Another week to be a proud Huron River Rat student-athlete:

    Women's Track and Field
As you may have read, our women's Track and Field won back-to-back regional championships, with many individual and relay championships and some regional and state records.  Women are currently ranked in the top ten in the state and looking to bring home a title in June.
    Women's Water Polo
Women's water polo also had a fantastic weekend, winning their regionals.  Currently ranked #1 in the state in some poles.  Track and field and water polo had many student earrings for individual state awards and honors.
    Women's Soccer
Women's regular season, ending with beating number one pre-district ranked Skyline.  They will start district play this week, opening up against Lincoln here at Huron on 5-26-22 @ 5:30.
    Women's Tennis
Our tennis team claimed enough points at regionals this past week to get the entire team to the state tournament. Tennis also having some excellent finishes in the regionals as well.
    Men's Track and Field
Let's hear it for our men's track and field taking 3rd with many individual and relay champions.  Huron's men are looking very strong being in the top of the state, some saying they could "run" for a state title as well.
    Men's Water Polo
Our men's polo team took a hard loss to Pioneer, bouncing back to beat a strong Birmingham Groves 8-7 to take 3rd at regionals, allowing them to qualify for states as well.
    Crew
Men and women's crew did well this year at states, having boats qualify for nationals.  More to come on the crew teams.
    Baseball
Still in-season play, having some big win's over ranked teams and number one division leaders Dexter.  Much more to come on men's baseball as they prepare for post-season play.
    Softball
Still in-season play. Standing strong all season while in a rebuilding season. Hit with some injuries and COVID.
    Men's Golf
Scores improving with every match. Like the rest of the Spring season sports regionals are in the first week of June. Many matches this season have come down to one or two strokes.
    Men and Women's Lacrosse
Both played long and hard regular seasons. Lots of progress have been seen in both programs. It's been great to see this progress, shocking a few teams during this building season. Coaches and players are having fun and working hard every day. Post-season play starts this week. Good luck with both programs this week.

Like to give a HUGE thank you to all teaching staff for all you do for these student-athletes!

    Go Rats,

    Tony

    Just a brief update...

    Athletes and Parents:
Spring Sports are here, 3-14-22. ALL Spring coaches info is on the athletic web page under their season! You can call the Athletic office or me.
    Good luck.

As we enter the next few weeks (through Spring Break), I want to touch on a few things.

ALL of our AAPS H&S guidelines are still in place. This includes wearing masks at all times while indoors, spectator limits (flexible to the activity/location/capacity) and indoor access restrictions, testing of non-vaccinated athletes/performers/participants, etc.
    1. Monday (3-14-22), all events that are indoors masks are required for all spectators still.
    2. As we end Winter and begin Spring, all non-vaccinated athletes will still need to test regularly. This requirement will remain in place through the end of the school year.
Thank you for your tireless work to balance H&S with offering our students and families meaningful experiences.
