The AAPS GHGI is a report that quantifies the amount of direct and indirect greenhouse gas emissions produced by the district. Fiscal Year (FY) 2010 (July 1, 2009-June 20, 2010) was the first complete data set at AAPS and is used as the baseline year in the GHGI. The baseline year is the year against which progress in reducing emissions is measured.
For this FY 2010-2023 report, the sources of emissions measured include: Scope 1 emissions of natural gas, diesel, gasoline, and site sequestration; Scope 2 emissions of electricity; and Scope 3 emissions of water. In FY 2023, results indicated AAPS's greenhouse gas emissions sources were 55% from electricity, 39% from natural gas, 6% from diesel fuel, and less than 1% from water and gasoline. In addition, AAPS sites (grass, forests, and ponds) removed 2,200 metric tons of CO2 from the atmosphere, equivalent to 6% of the District's annual emissions.
Since FY 2010, AAPS has seen a 24% reduction in total emissions, a 26% reduction in emissions per student, and a 25% reduction in emissions per 1,000 square feet.
