Community Resources:
Peer Mediation:
The Peer Mediation Program allows students the opportunity to help their peers effectively resolve conflicts in a collaborative manner. They learn social leadership skills that can last a lifetime, including active listening skills, respecting differences, collaboration, and critical thinking skills. The students develop self confidence, increase their understanding of different situations, and increase their tolerance of things that are unfamiliar. Peer Mediation empowers students to solve their own problems. Discussing and resolving disputes through Peer Mediation creates a more cohesive and peaceful student body.
P2P Depression Awareness:
As part of the Ann Arbor Public School's collaboration with the Depression Center, our own Tappan Peer-to-Peer (P2P) members have wrapped up their presentations to all 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students. The goal of the campaign is to convey knowledge to peers in order to reduce stigma, raise awareness, encourage help-seeking when needed, and ultimately, help to promote the early detection of depression and related illnesses.Peer Power Group:
Our Peer Power Group originated during our Bullying Prevention Month. The group meets monthly to collaborate on ways to make a positive difference at Tappan and learn more about the effects of bullying and how to prevent it. One of their activities was holding an Anti-Bullying Pledge banner signing. All students who signed received a blue and white ribbon to wear showing their support to keep Tappan bully-free. Our theme this year is We Rise by Lifting Others.ON-GOING ALL YEAR: Parent Support Group
