Mr. Tony Whiren
Physical Education/Health Department Chair
Tony Whiren began his career working as a Certified Athletic Trainer in a clinical environment. Working for a few different out reach clinics in Detroit areas, he later moved to Ann Arbor. Moving to Ann Arbor he took a job at U of M MedSport as an out reach clinic/high school Athletic Trainer. Enjoying his time at U of M and his roles for 13 years. Towards the end of his time at MedSport, Tony enjoyed just clinical work, being involved in High School Injury Clinics, runner’s clinics and doing orthotics.
Always enjoying athletics and working with high school athletic teams and athletes, lead Tony to a big career change. To pursue a second degree in Education, teaching Health, Physical Education and Sports Medicine. Shortly after finishing his teaching certification he finished his Masters in Education and Administration.
His passion to teach and continue to be an Certified Athletic Trainer lead him to Huron for both teaching and as the Head Athletic Trainer. Tony became the Department Chair in Physical Education and later also with the Health Department. He strives to build upon the enriched programs in PE and Health. Taking Sports Medicine and student athletic training programs here at Huron to even higher levels with class work and fieldwork. Tony feels lucky and blessed to be a “River Rat” and to work with great teachers and staff here at Huron!
