School Age Child Care Update, June 2021

At this time, the School Age Child Care program will remain on hold until further notice. Before and after school child care will not be available while district elementary schools are using a hybrid instructional schedule. This is due to the need to maintain student cohorts and the lack of space for child care in each building. For more information about the district's instructional plans, see the Superintendent's Updates and other information available on the AAPS homepage

We are working closely with the district and plan to open a modified child care program when it can work alongside the elementary COVID-19 mitigation measures.

Families needing child care are encouraged to look at other options in the community. The office of Great Start offers a list of licensed child care providers here:

SACC offers before and after care for young 5's to 5th grade when in session.

  • The Ann Arbor Public Schools Community Education and Recreation Department is committed to enhancing the overall well being of children who attend our School Age Child Care Program. We believe that a quality childcare experience depends on continuity, planning, and children having a sense of belonging to the group. Our program is designed to both enrich and complement a child’s school experience. To that end, we strive to provide:

    • A safe, healthy, stable environment
    • Universal snack menus
    • A capable, sensitive, caring and energetic staff who understand the needs of children in a childcare environment and who take part in ongoing staff development
    • Well organized, age-appropriate activities and games for recreation and skill acquisition
    • An extension of the school environment and its advantages of diversity and community
