Run-A-Thon
  • Fundraising at Abbot

The Abbot Elementary PTO works collaboratively with the education and support staff to enhance the learning environment at Abbot. Fundraising is a necessary component in accomplishing this broad mission. Funds raised by the PTO are used to benefit every Abbot student through school field trips, assemblies, library books, enrichment programs, classroom supplies and other PTO sponsored projects.

We do not ask Abbot families to sell wrapping paper, magazine subscriptions, cookie dough or pizza kits. Therefore the fundraisers we have in place are key to our continued success.  Please support your child and your school by participating in these fundraisers.
    Contributions/Dues

To kick off each new school year, the Abbot PTO sends home a flyer in backpack mail asking every Abbot family to voluntarily make a contribution to the Abbot PTO, which serves as annual dues. Contributions are the most direct and effective way of making a financial difference at Abbot. The suggested minimum per family is $20, but please consider giving what you are able – this is the only time of the year that we ask for money directly from our families. The Abbot PTO is truly grateful for any amount of contribution.

Because the Abbot PTO is a 501c3 corporation, all contributions are tax deductible and the PTO Treasurer can provide a receipt.  Again, we are truly thankful for any amount of contribution.

Abbot Run-a-Thon (held in the fall every year)

The Abbot Elementary Run-a-Thon has one of the longest running event histories in the area. This rich community event and popular fall tradition involves Abbot students, teachers, alumni and families. Runners and walkers collect pledges prior to the event and then earn money for every lap completed around a track set up behind the school. The Run-a-Thon is the Abbot PTO’s largest fundraising event of the year. Between 400-600 people attend this event as many friends, neighbors, and family members come to cheer on their favorite runners. Although the Run-a-Thon is an outdoor event, weather has never been a factor in its popularity or success.

In addition to raising valuable funds for Abbot Elementary, the Run-a-Thon provides the opportunity for students to be directly involved in helping to support their own school. The event establishes a sense of community pride while reinforcing the positive experiences related to physical activity. To encourage students to challenge themselves, the “100 Lap Club” was established where students who complete 100 laps are rewarded with a special group photo opportunity and a special trophy that is different than what other event participants receive.

Scholastic Book Fair (March Every Year)

The Scholastic Book Fair connects students and families with great books while raising funds and earning books for the Abbot Media Center . Hundreds of quality books in every price range, interest, and reading level are available for purchase over a three-day period in the Abbot Media Center .  Scholastic offers exclusive, more affordable editions of many of the most popular books sold in retail stores. Abbot earns books and funds for our Media Center based on a percentage of all items purchased during the Book Fair.

Abbot Ice Cream Social (Early June Every Year)

The Abbot Elementary Ice Cream Social has a long-standing tradition of being a wonderful community event as well as a fundraiser. There are many free activities in which to participate as well as ones that require tickets that are priced at $1.00 each. Activities include a cake decorating contest (by grade), kiddie games, face painting, a cake walk, ring toss, basketball toss, fire truck tours, live entertainment and more! Ice cream, pizza, subs, snow cones, cotton candy and other treats are available for purchase.

The key fundraising component of the Ice Cream Social is the Raffle. The raffle features over 75 items for students and adults alike donated by generous classrooms, teachers, families and local businesses. Past raffle items include bikes, iPods, scooters, Webkinz, restaurant gift certificates, and the ever-popular themed class baskets. Raffle tickets are priced at $1.00 each and may be placed in the specific basket for the prize desired.
