Whether you are looking for a cardio workout, strength training, a mind body discipline, a fun way to get fit or a class on land or water, we have what you're looking for. We offer classes each of our four sessions, year round. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Health, Physical Education, Recreation & Dance from Eastern Michigan University, along with a Teacher’s certification. Victoria earned her Master of Education in Science of Human Movement with an emphasis in Personal Training from Wayne State University. Her professional career includes Dance Program Director, K-12 Physical Education Teacher, Wellness Trainer and producer of her own Yoga Pilates videos. Chelsea Cendrowski has been doing yoga all her life and dancing since 2005. She began teaching Power Yoga Pilates for Rec & Ed in 2009 and created Karma Yoga in 2010. Chelsea believes in carrying your yoga practice off the mat and into the world, and taking the patience, dedication, and compassion into day to day life. In addition to her YogaFit certification, she holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing and works as an RN at the University of Michigan Hospital. She is also a volunteer at SafeHouse Center on their Response Team working with survivors of sexual assault and domestic violence. She loves teaching yoga classes for Rec & Ed. Miranda Cummings is a certified group fitness instructor through the American Council on Exercise. Her Bachelor of Science degree is from the University of Michigan. Currently, she works full time as a nurse, but her passion is preventing disease through healthy living and inspiring others to be active. Miranda loves running, cycling, yoga and teaching for Rec & Ed! Dianna Edmonson has been teaching fitness and dance classes since 2002. She is Red Cross CPR & First Aid certified and holds several Dance Instructor certifications. Currently, Dianna is teaching dance and fitness classes for Rec & Ed. She has been teaching Fitness for Rec & Ed since 2011. Doris Farrugia has been a group fitness instructor since 1984 and started teaching for Rec & Ed in 2009. She is a certified Turbo Kick and Zumba I, II & GOLD instructor. Instructing Zumba is her first passion! Doris earned her Associate's Degree in Administration Technology from Washtenaw Community College and is working for the Teacher Education Department at Eastern Michigan University. Sarah Feld started teaching group fitness in her hometown in Germany in 2002. She completed her degree in physical education at Timmermeister School in Muenster, Germany. Sarah continued her education in orthopedic rehabilitation through the German Association of Health Sport and Sports Therapy before she moved to the United States in April 2006. She is a Red Cross certified lifeguard and certified Personal Trainer. Sarah started teaching for Ann Arbor Rec & Ed in 2007. Currently, Sarah works as a personal trainer and teaches Nordic Walking for Rec & Ed. Jenine “Chip” Grover earned her undergrad degree in Recreation and Youth Leadership, with an emphasis in therapeutic recreation, from Michigan State University. She began her professional career as a recreational therapist at Chelsea Community Hospital in 1984, when she also began teaching group fitness. Chip earned a teaching certificate and master's degree from Eastern Michigan University, She has been teaching group fitness for Rec & Ed since 1988 and is a certified Group Fitness Instructor through the American Council on Exercise. Chip currently teaches first grade in Chelsea and Cardio Dance & Pilates for Rec & Ed. Cheryl Gulbranson has been teaching group fitness since 1980. She is certified as a group fitness instructor and personal trainer through the American Council on Exercise, Water Aerobics through the Aquatic Exercise Association, Spinning through Mad Dogg Athletics, Power Yoga through YogaFit, and Mat Pilates through PowerHouse Pilates. She has been a section leader in the Clinical Lab at St. Joe’s Hospital since 1972 and retired in 2017.. Cheryl has been teaching for Ann Arbor Rec & Ed since 1988. Mark A. Harris has been teaching fitness classes and personal training since 1999. Mark is a Certified Personal Trainer through NSCA, National Strength and Conditioning Association. Mark also presents at seminars and health conventions. He started teaching Personal Training for Rec & Ed in Spring 2008. Mark is currently teaching and training clients in and around the Ann Arbor area. Katy Held has been a Licensed Brain Gym Instructor/Consultant since 2004, and a Smart Moves for Seniors instructor since January 2007. She has over 2100 hours of coursework in neurodevelopmental movement programs. She graduated from the University of Michigan with a Bachelors in Business Administration degree. Katy is excited to teach for Re c& Ed!
Nancy Herlocher took her first swim at age 3 in Bar Harbor, Maine. She's been swimming ever since that day and worked her way from junior lifeguard to lifeguard to swim instructor. Nancy earned her B.S. and M.A. in Economics at Pennsylvania State University and currently works as a Research Computing Consultant at U of M. She's done triathlons but her current fitness passion is doing marathons. Nancy enjoys teaching Water Exercise for Rec & Ed.Abby Humphrey began dancing at age 13 - jazz, ballet, modern and musical theater. In college, she helped start and run a collaborative dance company, Visible Rhythms. She continued to dance in graduate school but never with the same passion until she discovered belly dance. Abby holds a Bachelors Degree in East Asian Studies from Wesleyan University and a Masters Degree in Acupuncture from Traditional Acupuncture Institute in Maryland. In her professional life she is an acupuncturist. Abby loves teaching BellyFit for Rec & Ed.
Donna Kujat is certified through the American Council on Exercise in kick boxing, Water Aerobics, group fitness, personal training and is a Red Cross certified lifeguard. She has been teaching fitness classes since 1987. Donna also presents at seminars and fitness conventions. She started teaching for Ann Arbor Rec & Ed in 1999. She is currently working as a Personal Trainer and teaching Hiit Boot Camp. Amy Leighton began teaching water aerobics with Ann Arbor Rec & Ed in 1999 after being a participant for many years herself. She has a Bachelors degree in Social Work from Eastern Michigan University and is a Certified Therapeutic Recreational Specialist. Currently Amy is a stay at home Mom and teaches Cardio Core for Rec & Ed.Joe Mason has been teaching group fitness as a second career since 2007, after retiring as an airline captain. In addition to his MBA, Joe holds several fitness certifications from the American Council on Exercise, World Instructor Training School, National Exercise Trainers Association, Healthways Silver Sneakers and YogaFit. He loves participating in Community Charity 5K runs and is a Biathlete/Triathlete. Joe has been teaching for Ann Arbor Rec & Ed since 2010. Teresa Myers has been teaching NIA since 2007. She is a certified Black-Belt NIA Instructor and started teaching for Rec & Ed in 2009. Teresa discovered NIA after an exhaustive search for an exercise routine she could do following an extensive surgery to remove cancer that had eaten through muscle in her back and rib cage. She got her life back both physically and emotionally through NIA. Teresa holds a Master’s Degree in Administration from Eastern Michigan University and is currently practicing as a certified Naturopathic Doctor. Geraldine Powell certified as a Personal Trainer in 2009 through The American Fitness Professionals & Associates and has taught circuit & weight training, body sculpting and balance & stability. Geraldine is certified to instruct Zumba Fitness, Zumba Golf and Cardio Drumming and holds a Bachelor of Science Degree from Eastern Michigan University, and is truly passionate about health and wellness! Stephanie Riegle has an MS in exercise science and physiology from Miami University. She began her professional career as an Aquatics Director working at the University of Minnesota and later at the University of Georgia, where she managed the staff and facilities, and taught water aerobics, swimming, lifeguarding, first aid and CPR. Stephanie is a certified Pilates instructor and Red Cross certified lifeguard. She joined the staff at Rec & Ed in 1999 teaching water aerobics, and began teaching Pilates in 2002. She earned her PhD in Higher Education Administration at the University of Michigan and currently works as an administrator at U of M and teaches Pilates Matwork for Rec & Ed.
Marika Smith, also known as Instrutora Baiana in the Capoeira way, has been training in the art since 2005. Marika has a lifetime of experience moving the body through sports, dance and martial arts. Marika holds an Associates of Allied Health Sciences from Washtenaw Community College and is currently working towards her Bachelors in Exercise Science & Advanced Personal Training from Bryan University. She enjoys working with people of all ages and abilities and has been using Capoeira to help folks have fun and be fit since 2010. Marika is excited to offer Capoeira through Rec&Ed.
Tanya Smith has over 20 years of experience in both classical ballet and contemporary dance, and spent 3 years as Co-Director of an undergaduate dance company while in college. She became a Certified Zumba Fitness Instructor in 2009 after participating in Zumba classes herself. Tanya started teaching Zumba for Rec & Ed in 2009. She also has a Master's Degree in Social Work from University of Michigan and is a Clinical Social Worker for the University of Michigan Health System. Hannah Terrell has been teaching Zumba since 2012. During this time, she has become licensed to teach Zumba Basic, Zumba Kids, Zumba Sentao, and Zumba Step. She is the oldest girl of 9 children and enjoys family time. Hannah is currently a college student at Schoolcraft College working towards a Culinary Arts Degree. From there she plans to further her education to get a degree in Nutrition. Mesha Terrell has been involved in the fitness industry since 1990. Her degree is in Sports Medicine/Exercise Science from Eastern Michigan University. Mesha is certified through the American College of Sports Medicine, (ACSM) as a Certified Exercise Physiologist and through the Aerobic and Fitness Association of America®, (AFAA) as a Primary Group Fitness Instructor . She has taught traditional group exercise classes such as step, slide, aqua, low and high impact aerobics. Mesha is licensed to teach the following Zumba formats: Zumba® Basic, Zumba Kids®, Aqua Zumba®, Zumba® Step, Zumba® Toning, Zumba® Gold, Zumba Sentao™.Dominique Theophilus is a certified yoga teacher. Ms. Theophilus' goal is to use yoga as a public service in the community. Dominique completed her Bachelor of Arts degree from Hampton University and is currently working for Cleary University as a Rental Coordinator. She loves the outdoors and looks forward to teaching Paddleboard Yoga for Rec & Ed.
Jennifer Varajon has been teaching swim lessons, water fitness, and coaching since 1983. She holds a Bachelor of Applied Arts degree in Recreation, Parks & Leisure Services from Central Michigan University. She is a Red Cross Instructor and Instructor Trainer in both lifeguarding and WSI. Professionally she has worked with various local recreation departments and public schools planning and coordinating a variety of community programs. Jen is happy to be on Rec & Ed's Staff and looks forward to sharing water fitness with the community.
Shawn Woloszyn started participating in athletics in 1987 and has been teaching and coaching since 2008. He is certified as a personal trainer through the American Council on Exercise, Corrective Exercise Specialist Level 1 through The Biomechanics Method. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Health, Physical Education, Recreation & Dance from Eastern Michigan University, along with a Teacher’s certification in Physical Education and Health. Professionally, he teaches Physical Education K-8th grade in Ann Arbor. Shawn also owns Athletic Innovations Training, which specializes in continuous looped resistance band training and basketball skill development.
