Rec & Ed is committed to providing safe and inclusive recreational sports opportunities to all youth, regardless of race/ethnicity, socioeconomic status, national origin, ability, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, or gender expression. Youth may register using a variety of gender terms, including “non-binary,” and are welcome to select whichever sports and leagues they prefer.
We welcome youth who identify as non-binary or gender fluid to play on Rec & Ed teams. Parents may feel free to contact Team Sports Manager, Seth Dodson, ( to ensure we have correct pronouns for your child and to discuss any other ways we can provide a welcoming environment.

Join the High School Boy's Volleyball league!
This new program is a great way for high school boys in grades 9-12 to be active and have fun while developing their mental and physical strength and character through teamwork and active participation playing volleyball. Everyone plays, including those new to the sport of volleyball. There are no tryouts or cuts. If numbers allow, separate leagues will be formed for 9/10 graders and 11/12th graders. Players who attend schools outside the Ann Arbor Public School District may participate in this league.
For questions or more information, contact Karen Draves at

Standard Registration runs from January 9 through February 15, 2023.
    • Registrations after February 15, 2023, can not be processed online. Parents need to contact the league director (draves@a2schools.orgs ), then call the Rec Office during business hours to be placed on a team, with the league director's approval.
Every attempt will be made to place players on teams whose registration is received after the deadline; however, players are not guaranteed team placement on any particular team.
    Team Formation & notification
Participants are assigned to school teams based on their public school attendance areas. 10-12 players are assigned to each team, although occasionally a team’s coach may request more players for their team. Players will be notified of their team assignment by email from their volunteer coach.
Players who have not heard from a coach by February 27, 2023 should contact Karen at the Rec & Ed office at or 734-994-2300 ext. 53254. A volunteer may be needed.
    Special Requests
If you have any special requests you would like staff to consider (for example, to have your child assigned with a specific coach or teammate), you must fill out the Special Request question when registering online or on the registration form and we will try to accommodate.  Unfortunately, we cannot accommodate special requests made after the registration period or after teams have been formed.
Teams are coached and assisted by volunteers, many of whom are parents. Coaches and team parents are always needed!  If you would like to volunteer, please fill out the volunteer question when registering online or the Adult Volunteer section of the registration. The Coach's meeting is scheduled for Monday, February 27, 2023 at the Rec office. Practice balls will be handed out at the coaches meeting.

Uniforms are not required and team T shirts are not provided for this inaugural season, in order to keep the costs down. Players may wear any comfortable shirt they want.
There are also no standings kept for this inaugural season, in order to focus on skill development over results.
