Parent Information - Success After School

Rec & Ed's after-school enrichment classes are designed to enhance your child's love of learning. Your child can develop friendships and enjoy age-appropriate activities that support exploration and achievement. Our diverse selection of after-school classes reflects our commitment to promoting well-being among children in our community. Please see below for answers to frequently asked questions:

    Q. When is the best time to enroll my child?

It is best to enroll your child several days prior to the start of the class to ensure that you have time to let your child’s teacher and the school know that your child is attending the class. If your child is enrolled in the school's child care program, please inform the child care staff as well.

    Q. How do I know which classes are being offered, and how do I register?

Class information is available on our website: www.aarecedonline.comYou can also visit our online registration page: https://apm.activecommunities.com/aareced and type the name of the school in the search bar. NOTE: If the after-school classes do not fit your schedule, Rec & Ed also offers many youth and adult activities on evenings and weekends.

    Q.  Is financial help available?

Rec & Ed is proud to offer scholarships to residents of the Ann Arbor Public School District who meet specific HUD income guidelines. More information (including the application) can be found at www.a2schools.org/recedscholarships.

    Q. How does my child’s teacher know that my child is attending an after-school class?

Please send a note or email to your child's teacher explaining that your child is enrolled in a Rec & Ed after-school program. Provide the class name, day of the week and dates, so that the teacher can remind your child to go to class. Also, it helps to inform your school secretary (as well as child care staff, if your child is enrolled in the school's child care program).

    Q. How does my child get to the after-school class?

When the final school bell rings, children walk directly to the classroom where the after-school class is being held. School staff are typically in the hallways ensuring that your child goes to the correct room/location. The Rec & Ed instructor will be standing outside the classroom door to welcome and check in the children. At the end of each class, parents should pick up their child at the front of the school (per the school's normal pick-up procedure).

    Q. How can I support my child?

Parents can help by reminding their child that he/she has an after-school class. Parents can also provide child-specific, special needs information during the registration process and/or when they speak directly to the Rec & Ed instructor.

    Q. Can my child walk or bike home?

If a parent provides a signed permission slip directly to the instructor, older children (usually 3rd grade and older) may sign themselves out and walk or bike home.

    Q. Do I need to notify you if my child is unable to attend class?

Yes. Please email reced_afterschoolabsence@a2schools.org no later than 2pm on the day of the class. A supervisor will then forward the email to the instructor. If you do not notify Rec & Ed via the email above, you will receive a call from Rec & Ed staff asking the whereabouts of your child (per our Child Safety Protocol), and you may be charged a child locator fee.
