Ms. Nina Perko
Ms. Perko started her career path working in community mental health, but coming from a family of educators she quickly found herself moving to the academic field as a guidance counselor and adjunct instructor. Ms. Perko gained a wealth of knowledge and experience at Grand Rapids Public Schools where she worked for over 13 years. Her most recent school was City High Middle School, an IB World School. Ms. Perko looks forward to bringing her experience and knowledge about IB to Huron High School. She is passionate about the curriculum and philosophy as well as recognizes the lasting benefits for students who participate in an IB program. She is very excited to accompany the River Rats on the IB journey.
Another passion that Ms. Perko brings to Huron is a focus on post-secondary and career planning by helping students explore a variety of options, from starter jobs to long range plans such as a Ph.D. She encourages students to focus on their strengths while developing ways to overcome their weaknesses. Taking into consideration the whole student, she seeks to help students recognize their full potential and make positive choices for their futures.
