    Parent & Community Testimonials

What makes PBL ultimately successful is the support that sustains it. As we continue to develop and support our collaborative culture of PBL at A2 STEAM, we ask that families engage in thoughtful reflection as well. What have you noticed about your child’s PBL work? How were you engaged throughout the process? How were you engaged during our expositions? In what ways has PBL shaped your child as a thinker, maker, and collaborator?

In the new year, we will be embarking on the task of collecting testimonials. These narratives will help to sustain our instructional model by supporting our teachers, praising our students, and telegraphing our uniqueness to the world. If you are interested in sharing, please fill out the following form:

Guitar Needed for A2 STEAM Vocal Music

The music department is seeking the donation of a steel string acoustic guitar for use in the vocal music classroom. If you have an instrument that's been collecting dust, please consider donating it for use at A2 STEAM.

    A2 STEAM Lego Wall

    Lego Wall Lego Wall

A group of 4th grade students designed and built a Lego Wall for student use as a PBL project with Mrs. Stidham this term. We are hoping to have the students begin using this in January as a sensory break, calming activity or reward/incentive. However, we are in need of MORE Legos! If you have any old Lego blocks, baseplates, figures, etc that you would be willing to donate to A2 STEAM, please bring them to the main office. If you have questions or would like more information, please contact Mrs. Stidham.

Science Olympiad for 2nd through 5th Graders

My name is Krista Takacs and I am the coordinator for Washtenaw Elementary Science Olympiad (WESO) at A2 STEAM. Science Olympiad is an exciting competition where student teams participate in a variety of events involving subjects like engineering, math, biology, electronics, astronomy, programming, chemistry, and more. Science Olympiad is designed to foster critical thinking, cooperative learning and the transfer of conceptual knowledge to hands-on challenges. Science Olympiad is a volunteer led group. In order to be successful we will need parent involvement to act as coaches and volunteers on the day of the event. This year, the Science Olympiad competition will be held on Saturday, May 11, 2019.

If you are interested in being a coach, but could not attend the meeting, please e-mail me at a2steam.weso@gmail.com and we can discuss the event you are interested in coaching. WESO hosts a meeting for coaches, which is scheduled for the evening of January 30, 2019 at Pioneer.

Winter seems to have come early this year!

Please send your child to school with warm weather gear and LABEL it with their last name. (If your family needs assistance with getting cold weather items like gloves, snow pants, or boots, please talk to Stacey Szuszman or one of the principals.)
