STEAM Middle School students are invited to join Anna's Kindness on Saturday, Dec. 1, to serve breakfast to the less fortunate from 7-9 a.m. at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, 306 N. Division, Ann Arbor. Students will help prepare the food and drinks, serve breakfast to guests, and then clean up the kitchen following the meal, all with guidance from adult supervisors from St. Andrew's and Anna’s Kindness. Due to the size of the St. Andrew’s kitchen, this event is for students only. The sign-up form is located here. Anna’s Kindness is a 501(c)(3) charity based in Ann Arbor which connects middle school students with on-site direct volunteer opportunities to help the less fortunate. For more information, contact firstname.lastname@example.org.
My name is Krista Takacs and I am the coordinator for Washtenaw Elementary Science Olympiad (WESO) at A2 STEAM. Science Olympiad is an exciting competition where student teams participate in a variety of events involving subjects like engineering, math, biology, electronics, astronomy, programming, chemistry, and more. Science Olympiad is designed to foster critical thinking, cooperative learning and the transfer of conceptual knowledge to hands-on challenges. Science Olympiad is a volunteer led group. In order to be successful we will need parent involvement to act as coaches and volunteers on the day of the event. This year, the Science Olympiad competition will be held on Saturday, May 11, 2019.
An informational meeting on Science Olympiad for parents of 2nd through 5th graders will be held from 5 pm to 6 pm on November 29th in the Media Center (Library), preceding the PTSO meeting. There will be a short presentation followed by a question and answer period. The meeting is geared towards parents of new participants, but all are welcome.
If you are interested in being a coach, but cannot attend the meeting, please e-mail me at email@example.com and we can discuss the event you are interested in coaching. WESO hosts a meeting for coaches, which is scheduled for the evening of January 30, 2019 at Pioneer.
Our October Community Meeting - over coffee! - took place this past Thursday. Thanks to all the parents to submitted questions to discuss and/or who attended! Notes are posted to the A2STEAM PTO Facebook page for anyone who wants an update but was unable to attend in person (via www.facebook.com/groups/a2steampto). If you are not on Facebook but want the notes, just e-mail us at firstname.lastname@example.org and we can send them your way.
Please send your child to school with warm weather gear and LABEL it with their last name. (If your family needs assistance with getting cold weather items like gloves, snow pants, or boots, please talk to Stacey Szuszman or one of the principals.)
