Board of Education Update

During the Ann Arbor Public Schools Board of Education Meeting on Wednesday, October 11, 2023, the Board of Education voted to appoint Torchio W. Feaster to fill the vacant Board position. Trustee Feaster currently serves as an Assistant Public Defender with the Washtenaw County Office of the Public Defender, assigned to the 22nd Circuit Court - Felony Division, and has done extensive work and engagement within our city and communities. We believe he will be a strong advocate for all members of our AAPS communities, and we are excited to work with him.

After being admitted to the bar in 2007, Trustee Feaster was employed as a judicial advisory assistant for the Honorable Judge Barkey of the Genesee County Probate Court. He left that job in 2008 to pursue his dream of opening his own solo law practice.

Trustee Feaster has been active in the community. He served as vice president of the Young Democrats, president and treasurer of the Mallory VanDyne Scott Bar Association and board member of the American Centennial Inns of Court. He has also served as a steward and trustee of Quinn Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Church, a big brother in the Big Brother & Big Sisters of Flint Lunch Buddy Program, teen jury judge for the Genesee County Community Action Resource Department, and coach of the Flint Northern, Northwestern and Davison High School Mock Trial teams. He is also a proud member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated.

Trustee Feaster was later hired to create and administer the City of Flints new Blight Court Program. He served as the first Blight Court Judge” from 2017-2022. Additionally, he worked with the Center for Civil Justice to create a new Homelessness Court for individuals afflicted with homelessness and criminal warrants. That program seeks to clear those warrants and provide quality affordable housing for our homeless population.

Currently, Trustee Feaster serves as an Assistant Public Defender with the Washtenaw County Office of the Public Defender, assigned to the 22nd Circuit Court - Felony Division.

Outside of work, Trustee Feaster enjoys spending time with his wife and two daughters, playing basketball, watching sports and traveling.

You can watch him take the Oath of Office here.
