Chromebook Troubleshooting - Tips & Tricks
Chromebook not powering on
- Plug in the AC adapter to a functioning wall outlet.
- Connect the power to the computer.
- Check for lights illuminated on the computer or on the AC adapter.
- If the device still does not power on, call the AAPS Student/Family Help Desk 734-997-1222
Chromebook not connecting to WIFI
- At the bottom right, select the time.
- Select Not Connected. Note: If you see your Wi-Fi network name and a signal strength, your Chromebook is already connected to Wi-Fi.
- Turn on Wi-Fi.
- Your Chromebook will automatically look for available networks and show them to you in a list.
- Select the secure Wi-Fi network.
- Type the network password.
- Select connect.
- If the device still does not connect, call the AAPS Student/Family Help Desk 734-997-1222
Chromebook Drops Home Wi-Fi Network
- Restart the Chromebook.
- When the list comes up with Networks to join, press down the “ctrl” key and click on your home network.
- Click on “Forget” along the top.
- In the box that comes up, enter your home Wi-Fi password.
- Make sure the bar for “Allow other users of this device to use this network” is moved to the “On” position (to the right).
- Click Connect. (Please note: sometimes that line is greyed out, but is in the correct position. You should no longer have the Wi-Fi dropped issue after “Forgot” is clicked and the Wi-Fi has reconnected.)
- If the device still does not connect, call the AAPS Student/Family Help Desk 734-997-1222
Chromebook display is dim
- Make sure the Chromebook is plugged in.
- Make sure the Chromebook is on by pressing the power button.
- Press the increase screen brightness button several times, and then check to see if the screen brightness increases.
- Restart the Chromebook by holding the power button down until the device turns off, then turn it back on again.
- If the display is still dim, call the AAPS Student/Family Help Desk 734-997-1222
Chromebook keyboard is not working
- If the volume or brightness keys don't work, you might be at the upper or lower limit for that setting.
- If the backward or forward buttons don't work, check if the same icons in a web browser window are grayed out. For example, if the back button on a web page is gray, the browser isn't aware of a page to move backward to.
- If you're having other problems with your keyboard, try these steps:
- Turn off the Chromebook, then back on.
- Try using the keys while you browse as a guest.

Chromebook has no sound
- To set a default playback device and check volume settings Right-click the Volume icon in the notification area (bottom-right corner) and select Playback devices.
- Select the playback device and click Set Default.
- If the device is disabled, right-click the device and select Enable and then click Set Default and click OK.
- Click the Volume icon in the notification area and set the volume to your preference. Note: Check the volume settings on the application in use, example - Windows Media Player, VLC player, YouTube video, etc.

MacBook Troubleshooting FAQ
MacBook Not Powering On
- Connect the power adapter to a known working wall outlet.
- Connect the charger to your MacBook.
- Wait at least 5 minutes to allow the battery to charge.
- Press and hold the power button (Touch ID button on newer MacBooks) for 5 seconds.
- If the screen remains black, try a different power outlet if available.
If the device still does not power on, call the AAPS Student/Family Help Desk at 734-997-1222.
MacBook Not Connecting to Wi-Fi
- Click the Wi-Fi icon in the menu bar.
- Make sure Wi-Fi is turned On.
- Select your wireless network.
- Enter the Wi-Fi password if prompted.
- If you're already connected but have no internet access, turn Wi-Fi off and back on.
- Restart your MacBook and try connecting again. Apple Logo > Restart
If the device still does not connect, call the AAPS Student/Family Help Desk at 734-997-1222.
MacBook Keeps Disconnecting from Home Wi-Fi
- Click the Wi-Fi icon and choose Wi-Fi Settings.
- Select your home network and choose Forget This Network.
- Confirm that you want to forget the network.
- Reconnect by selecting your home Wi-Fi and entering the password.
- Restart the MacBook if the issue continues. Apple Logo > Restart
If the device still does not stay connected, call the AAPS Student/Family Help Desk at 734-997-1222.
MacBook Display Is Dim
- Make sure the MacBook is plugged into power.
- Press the Brightness Up (☀️) key several times.
- Open System Settings > Displays and adjust the brightness slider.
- Turn off Automatically adjust brightness temporarily to test.
- Restart the MacBook. Apple Logo > Restart
If the display is still dim, call the AAPS Student/Family Help Desk at 734-997-1222.
MacBook Keyboard or Trackpad Not Working

Restart the MacBook. Apple Logo > Restart
- If using an external keyboard or mouse, disconnect and reconnect it.
- Check for any debris or spills on the keyboard.
- If only the trackpad is unresponsive, try connecting an external mouse if available.
- If possible, log in with another user account to determine if the issue is account-specific.
If the keyboard or trackpad still does not work, call the AAPS Student/Family Help Desk at 734-997-1222.
MacBook Has No Sound

Click the Control Center or Volume icon and make sure the volume is turned up and not muted.
- Open System Settings > Sound.
- Under Output, make sure the correct speakers or headphones are selected.
- Disconnect any Bluetooth headphones or speakers that may be connected.
- Restart the MacBook. Apple Logo > Restart
If the sound still does not work, call the AAPS Student/Family Help Desk at 734-997-1222.
Camera Not Working
- Make sure no other application (Zoom, Google Meet, FaceTime, etc.) is using the camera.
- Close and reopen the application.
- Restart the MacBook. Apple Logo > Restart
- Open System Settings > Privacy & Security > Camera and ensure the application has permission to access the camera.
If the camera still does not work, call the AAPS Student/Family Help Desk at 734-997-1222.
Microphone Not Working
- Open System Settings > Sound > Input.
- Verify the correct microphone is selected.
- Ensure the input volume is turned up.
- Check System Settings > Privacy & Security > Microphone and confirm the application has permission to use the microphone.
- Restart the MacBook. Apple Logo > Restart
If the microphone still does not work, call the AAPS Student/Family Help Desk at 734-997-1222.
MacBook Is Running Slowly
- Close all applications.
- Restart the MacBook. Apple Logo > Restart
- Make sure the MacBook has at least 10 GB of available storage.
- Connect to Wi-Fi and allow macOS to finish any pending updates.
- Leave the MacBook plugged in for a while if it has recently been updated.
If the MacBook continues to run slowly, call the AAPS Student/Family Help Desk at 734-997-1222.
iPads
iPad Troubleshooting - Tips & Tricks
iPad not powering on
- If your device won't turn on or start up, plug it in. (It may take up to 15 minutes to turn on.)
- After a few minutes, you should see the charging screen.
- Let it charge for up to one hour.
- If it still does not power on, call the AAPS Student/Family Help Desk 734-997-1222
iPad not connecting to WIFI
- Make sure that your router is on and you're within range. If you're too far from your Wi-Fi router, you can't get a signal.
- Make sure that Wi-Fi is on and you can see your network:
- Go to Settings > Wi-Fi and make sure that Wi-Fi is on.
- Tap the name of your Wi-Fi network to join.
- A blue checkmark beside a network name means that you're connected.
- If you see Auto Join Disabled under your Wi-Fi network name, tap it and turn on Auto-Join.
- If asked, enter the password for your Wi-Fi network.
- Get help if you don’t know your password.
- Even if you enter the correct password, you might see an "unable to join the network" message or an "incorrect password" message.
- Restart all of your devices, then try to enter your password again.

iPad has no sound
- Check your sound settings.
- If your device has a Ring/Silent switch, move the switch forward—toward the device's display—so that orange isn't showing.
- On an iPad, you can also swipe down from the top-right corner to view the Control Center and make sure that Silent Mode is off.
- Open Settings > Do Not Disturb and make sure that Do Not Disturb is off.
- Press Volume Up button and test the sound again (YouTube, music, or any other app with sounds).
- Turn off the iPad, then back on.

What is Clever?
Clever is an easy way for you to access all your learning applications. With Clever, you only have to remember one username and password, or use a Clever Badge, to log into all your applications.

How do I help my student log into Clever?
- Open a web browser (Chrome, Safari or Firefox) and type in the following URL:
https://clever.com/in/a2schools
- Log in with:
- Google using your student's AAPS email address and password

- You can also navigate to www.clever.com/login and search for your student's school.
- Please note: There may be multiple schools by the same name, so please be sure to select the school associated with your student's school district! Student credential requirements will vary by district! If you're unsure what username or password to use, please reach out to your child's teacher or district help desk for assistance.
- Once your student is logged into their Clever Portal, they can click on the application icon they'd like to use.

How do I help my student navigate to Lexia, Dreambox
- After a student or teacher is logged into Clever via a web browser, they will be able to click on one of their connected applications.
- This will open the application or external link within the original tab.
- If a student or teacher wants to go back to their original tab, they should use the web browser back button.
- They will still be signed into their Clever portal when they go back to it and can access their other applications from there.

How to login to the Google Suite (Gmail, Google Classroom, Google Meet)
