Mr. Kevin Karr
Dear Mitchell Families (and others who are visiting),
Welcome to the Mitchell School webpage. I hope you'll find helpful information.
To tell you a little about me, I live just east of Ann Arbor with my wonderful wife and super son. I have been the principal at Mitchell School since the fall of 2011. I am a graduate of the University of Michigan where I earned my teaching certification and a bachelor’s degree in Education. I also have a master’s degree in Educational Leadership from Eastern Michigan University. Before working at Mitchell, I was the principal of Martin Luther King Elementary School and Northside Elementary School for six years each. Previous to that, I taught 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades for eight years. I love working with students, teachers and parents to make Mitchell the best it can be. In fact, I can't imagine a better job in a better community than at Mitchell! When I have extra time, I enjoy spending time with my family, running, cycling, swimming, traveling, and reading. I also love University of Michigan sports.
To my work as an educational leader, I bring a focus on academic excellence, a desire to be a part of a caring and professional learning community, and a belief that research on best educational practices must guide us in achieving excellence. My previous work has taught me the value of diversity and of the need to build relationships with teachers and families in order to be successful. I also believe that respect is the foundation to success as well as a necessary ingredient to solving the problems that we may face.
Please check the Mitchell News site for updates. It is where I'm posting information about the happenings at Mitchell School!
