    Mr. Alcocer

My name is Joseph Alcocer (Al-koh-sair) and I am one of the two 5th grade instrumental music teachers at Pattengill. This is my second year with Ann Arbor Public Schools and my 6th year of teaching orchestra in the public schools. I also teach 5th grade strings at Burns Park, Angell, and serve as the co-director of orchestras at Tappan Middle School, and co-teacher at Skyline High School. Students who start with me this year can potentially have me as a teacher for 4 years.

Students in my class can choose to play: Violin, Viola, or Cello. They have the option of switching to String Bass in the 6th grade.

I earned my bachelor’s degree in Violin Performance from Huston-Tillotson University an HBCU in Austin, Texas and have worked toward a master’s degree in music education from Eastern Michigan University. My teaching is highly informed by the Suzuki Method and students at Pattengill use an adaptation of the Suzuki in the Schools curriculum. I firmly believe that “every child can” when given all the right tools to succeed. I look forward to nurturing your child’s musical talent!
