Degrees and Certifications:
Mrs. Cathy Stone
My name is Cathy Stone, and I teach first grade at Abbot. This is my 12th year at Abbot and my 28 th year teaching in the Ann Arbor Public Schools. I received my Bachelor’s degree from the University of Michigan in Early Childhood Education and my Master’s degree from Eastern Michigan University in Reading. I am also trained in Reading Recovery, a specialized one-on- one support program for below level first grade readers. During my time in Ann Arbor I have taught first and second grade, as well as supporting students in grades K-5 in reading, writing and math as a Title 1 teacher.
On the home front, my husband and I have two grown daughters: Sarah and her husband live in Philadelphia, where she works for the government affairs department of the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. Adrienne and her husband live in Chicago, where she works and attends DePaul University. We also have a son, Justin, who is 16, a junior at Skyline High School and a member of their crew team. When I am not in school, I enjoy reading, sewing, knitting, baking (especially bread and pies!) and playing with our 4-year-old springer spaniel, Abby.
