Mrs. Birdsong

I am the Title I Teacher at Carpenter. This school year will be my second year at Carpenter and my 16th year in teaching.  Before teaching at Carpenter, I taught in Spanish-English Dual Immersion programs in public schools in Oregon. I have taught first grade, was a reading teacher and supported teachers as an instructional coach focusing on improving literacy and math instruction. Before studying to become a teacher, I served in the Peace Corps in Kazakhstan where I taught English. I studied at the University of Oregon (receiving a BA in International Studies and Spanish) and Lewis and Clark College, where I earned a Masters in Teaching. I have also completed my English as a Second Language Endorsement, Reading Endorsement and a certificate in Dual Language and Immersion Education. I recently moved to Ann Arbor from Portland, Oregon. I live with my two daughters, Adella and Alma, and my husband, Will. I enjoy hiking, camping, cooking, eating, gardening and reading. I feel so fortunate to be part of the Carpenter community and I look forward of another year of learning with the students, teachers and families here at Carpenter.
