Degrees and Certifications:

Ms. Thompson

My name is Johnny Thompson and this is my first year at Carpenter Elementary.  For the last twelve years I have been teaching fourth and fifth grade at Honey Creek Community School in Ann Arbor.  I had many great experiences there but am excited to make this change and join the Carpenter family! Before Honey Creek I lived in North Carolina and taught grades four through twelve at a wilderness therapy program for at-risk youth.  I grew up on the west side of the state and attended Western Michigan University for my Bachelor's Degree and after settling down in Ypsilanti attended Marygrove College for my Masters in reading. In my free time I enjoy exploring nature, reading, playing volleyball, and writing.  Each year I participate in NaNoWriMo, a November writing challenge, and am excited to have published a book of my own this year. I hope to help my students explore and discover their own passions and reach the goals they set for themselves. I'm very much looking forward to getting to know my students and their families and putting down roots in this wonderful Carpenter Community!
