    Occupational Therapist

    Ms.. Muusz

    Hello Pattengill Families!

My name is Marta Muusz, and I am the occupational therapist (OT) for Pattengill Elementary School. I am so excited to be your OT this year! This is my second year in AAPS and my 11th as an OT. I am a native Chicagoan but have lived in Michigan for almost 7 years now and can truly call MI my home. I live with my husband and our two children, who are in kindergarten and 3rd grade this year. I love COFFEE, chocolate, avocados, reading, musicals, the color pink, shopping at Target, and spending time outdoors with my family.

My career in occupational therapy started in a roundabout way. I actually have an undergraduate degree in K-12 Music Education and Music Therapy from Wartburg College in Waverly, IA. I worked as a music therapist in the Chicagoland area for a few years and during this time, worked closely with several OT's. Once I knew what OT was and how amazing it is, I decided that it was my true calling. I received my master's degree in Occupational Therapy from the University of Illinois at Chicago and worked as an OT in a therapeutic day school, children's hospital, and early intervention in Chicago and rural Virginia before moving to the Ann Arbor area. Prior to starting with AAPS in the fall of 2019, I worked at Eastern Michigan University's (EMU) Autism Collaborative Center and taught in EMU's Master's of Occupational Therapy program.

As you can see, my education and professional career started in education and I've now come full circle, returning to work in a school-based setting. No matter the setting, I love working with children of all abilities to increase access to and participation in the activities they need to, want to, and have to do within their learning environments every day. It is my belief that occupational therapy is a team sport and the student and their family are the captains of the team. I can’t wait to meet all of the Pattengill students and families and to get started on what promises to be a year to remember!

    Sincerely,
    Marta Muusz, MS, OTRL
