Mrs. VerLee

Hello! Welcome to fourth grade! This promises to be an exciting year as children transition to upper elementary. I am excited about the opportunity of providing your child with a meaningful fourth grade experience and I’m looking forward to getting to know you and your children better. I have a Master’s degree in Literacy from Michigan State University and have teaching endorsements in elementary education and special education. I also have a Bachelor’s degree in Speech Pathology and Audiology from Western Michigan University. This will be my 20th year of teaching in the Ann Arbor Public School system, and my second at Lawton. Outside of teaching, I enjoy a wide variety of interests such as spending time with my family, skiing, biking, golfing, reading, gardening, and much more. I look forward to sharing my interests with your child, while at the same time connecting with your child’s interests!

My favorite book to read to students is Bud, Not Buddy by Christopher Paul Curtis. This historical fiction story takes place during the Great Depression. I love the main character, Bud, for his strength of character, his humor and his determination to find his true place in the world no matter the obstacle.

My favorite subject when I was in elementary school was reading because I loved transporting myself to different time periods and experiencing different cultures. I liked to wonder and imagine how I would have lived my life during various times and circumstances.
