Emily Theriault-Kimmey

Dr. Kimmey has served as an educator in the Ann Arbor Public Schools since 1998. Her core belief is that educators can forward justice through powerful teaching. Dr. Kimmey is deeply committed to centering children, and providing them with engaging learning experiences that leverage the brilliance they bring from their home communities.

In 2012, Dr. Kimmey was deeply honored to receive the Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching from President Barack Obama. She holds a bachelor’s degree in science, a master’s degree in English language arts, and a doctoral degree in mathematics education from the University of Michigan. During the summer months Dr. Kimmey is engaged in educational research and design, and serves as a teacher educator.

Dr. Kimmey grew up on the West Side of Detroit, but has lived in Ann Arbor for many years now. She is proud to share that she is a product of the public schools. She lives with her partner who serves as an educational leader in a neighboring school district. Dr. Kimmey enjoys spending time with family and connecting with nature. Her hobbies include standup paddle surfing, hiking, reading educational literature, and rooting for the University of Michigan.
