SESLA

  • Program Description: 

    The AAPS Summer ESL Academy (SESLA) serves multilingual students entering grades 4 - 8 in the 2021-22 school year. During this three-week program, students will engage in a project-based curriculum that supports math, literacy, and English language skills. All classes will be held in person at Huron High School. 

    Goals: 

    1. Develop English language reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills
    2. Develop math skills
    3. Build relationships with teachers and peers

    Dates:

    • June 21st - July 9th
    • Monday - Friday (No School July 5)

    Enrollment:

    • Enrollment is by invitation based on student data and teacher recommendations. Parents of invited students will receive an email with registration information the week of May 18th.

  • Program Description: 

    The AAPS Summer Learning Academy (SLA) serves rising 6th - 8th graders at Scarlett Middle School. During this three-week program, students will engage in a project-based curriculum that supports both math and literacy skills. All classes will be held in person at Huron High School. 

    Goals:

    1. Develop math skills
    2. Develop literacy (reading) skills
    3. Build relationships with teachers and peers

    Dates:

    • June 21st - July 9th
    • Monday - Friday (No School July 5)

EL Bridge Summer Program

  • Program Description:
    The EL Bridge program is designed for incoming 9th grade English Learners to earn 0.5 elective credit while getting exposure to academic and social opportunities to help them successfully transition to high school.

    Goals: 

    • Build English language skills in the core content areas with a specific focus in Language Arts through a variety of activities;
    • Prepare 9th graders and newcomers for a successful transition into high school;
    • Develop school knowledge for English Learners to successfully navigate high school such as school skills, school resources, and communicating successfully with teachers.

    Dates: July 12 - July 23

    Days:  M-F

    Enrollment:
    Enrollment in EL Bridge is by invitation based on English Learner assessment data.  Parents of invited students will receive a communication with instructions for how to indicate their desire to participate in the program.
