Intensive Reading Program
Summer Intensive Reading Program 2022 (IRP)
The SISS Summer Intensive Reading Program will be an intervention for students with IEPs utilizing Lexia Core 5 (1st-5th) or Lexia Power Up (6th-8th) computer program. The students will be participating in whole group instruction, independent work, Lexia computer-based program practice, and targeted instruction with the teacher. The teacher will monitor students’ progress during the duration of the program and adjust instruction based on need. Students will be grouped into classes based on similar reading needs, levels, and/or age. The student’s IEP case manager will identify potential students for this program and refer them based on data* and identified areas to target during summer. Not all referrals will be admitted into the program due to space, criteria, or other contributing factors. Any student not admitted will be encouraged to register in a summer academy course.
*Data can include but is not limited to NWEA scores, Reading Benchmarks (F&P, SRI, Lexile), Academic Data from a Re-Evaluation, or other ELA measuresProgram Learning Targets:
phonological awareness, phonics, structural analysis
- Middle School:
word study, grammar, comprehension
Enrollment in the summer Intensive Reading Program will be based on Lexia data and will be an AAPS SISS Case Manager referral based program. Due to limited spacing, criteria and other contributing factors, not all referrals will be admitted into the program. Any student not admitted will be encouraged to register in a summer academy course by their case manager.
- AAPS Case Manager referrals open March 2nd and close on April 8th @ 5PM.
- AAPS Case Managers will be notified of acceptance or denials by April 22nd, 2022.
- AAPS case managers will communicate with families if their child was not accepted into the program and provide them with summer academy choices.
A Google form will be emailed to parents/guardians to accept or decline the Summer 2022 Intensive Reading Program. All responses must be submitted by Monday, May 9, 2022.Program Dates:

Monday - Thursday
- 8:30 a.m. - 10:15 a.m. or
- 10:30 am - 12:15 p.m.
